Changing a normal save to creative?
Is it possible to change from normal to creative (and back again?).

I want to build a megabase but the pure ferrite cost is just too damn high.

Is it possible to change the difficulty to creative, then build my base without worrying about raw materials? After it's built, I'd like to go back to normal.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

get oxygen from oxygen generator (condensed carbon + oxygen --> a ton of condensed carbon, powers oxygen generators for free)

so you can turn 250 PF into 750 PF for absolutely free with a few medium refiners and a few mins. if you scale this out, you can generate thousands of PF for free in half an hour.

You can use the NMS save editor from https://nomansskymods.com/mods/no-mans-sky-save-editor/

The game save location is: "%appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\(user ID folder)".
Open the raw JSON file in Save Editor. Find the vary beginning of the file. It will look like this:

"Version":4616,
"Platform":"Win|Final",
"PlayerStateData":{
"UniverseAddress":{

The version is the game mode. You can change the mode by changing the version number to one of the following:

normal: 4616
creative: 5128
survival: 5640
permadeath: 6664

You will allways have the creative quest in all modes but you can still do all the quest. I have not had a problem other than being taged for the creative mode quest.

Is there a danger (if you're not practiced with modding games) of rendering my save corrupt by using that tool incorrectly?

NMSSE has been an extremely reliable app. It creates backups of your files before saving updates, and stores them in a backups directory under the app. If you just use its graphical user interface you're not likely to cause problems, but if you edit the JSON directly you could cause yourself trouble unless you're very careful and know just what you're doing. Changing the version number is pretty easy because it's the very first thing in the JSON file, so it's pretty low-risk.

It's never a bad idea to make your own backups of the save files just in case before you try anything adventurous.

OH, and by the way: the version numbers in Nannok's post refer to the Atlas Rises version of the game. For NEXT, use these numbers:

normal: 4626
creative: 5138
survival: 5650

Thay added 10 to the number in next. You can use the old numbers or the new ones. The game upgrades your game save to the new numbers. I have tested it and it works fine.

4616 + 10 = 4526

You can just buy all the pure ferrite you need

There is always a danger when "hacking" a save game with a tool not provided by the original software authors. Do the benefits outweigh the risks? In my case HECK YEA! There is no way I could have played beyond hour 20 due to the horrible grind. Always backup your savegame folder (the entire contents, not just the single game file) just in case you change the wrong value.

Thanks for the advice, guys.. I think I'm too paranoid about screwing up my save (already had to start again!) I'll keep this in mind, in the meantime I will just buy the Ferrite. Have millions of credits now due to flora and fauna scanning with S-Class modules.

I transferred my Normal save (legacy save when it had no difficulty) to Survival mode and 200 hours later the save file is fine.

The save game editor has been a saviour for me, fixing bugs that HG don't fix or even reply to (support requests) and allowing me to actually play NEXT because I didn't want to start over just to play Survival. Without NMSE I would have not played NEXT and not have gotten my son a copy as well.

Or just buy everything you need and just do trading to make easy money. There isn't much of a money sink in this game so buying stuff you require makes you farm less, waste less time and actually have a reason to make money.

Thanks Nekronos! I will do that. I have the infrastructure in my base to create oxygen, so I will convert on-site! Shouldn't really screw around with the save but will use that tool if I have any more bugs that need fixed.

personal preference I guess. setting up production facilities full of refiners and resource generators is a fun use of time imo, gives you something to do. I can see the appeal of trading to make money as well, but not my style. I'd rather build a factory and a giant farm than be a space trucker.

I have a factory and production line and a farm. I mix it up...but in order to get that stuff a bit quicker, trading is the best initial option to turn your first few mil into 100+ mil to get a hauler and expand your base of operations. I personally only operate on my freighter as bases on planets seem to be a waste of time for me. I have some bases on planets which have large farms but nothing much else. Mobile bases lead to crazy amount of money, freedom and ability to mix up all sorts of money making methods.

But yeh, its personal preference.

I really wish the galactic market was actually a real player-to-player auction house, so that factories were a way to provide other players with goods and make a killing in the process. this game would benefit from an AH so much
