Freighter to storage
So I'm guessing since the latest experimental branch (or whichever since the last update) no longer allows transfers from freighter to base storage, they viewed this as an exploit or something, but seriously, WTF is the point of having a big ass freighter with all that storage if I can't use it?? I'm *constantly* running out of storage at my base and frequently have to put stuff in my freighter. How does it make sense that we can instantly put stuff *into* freighter cargo space but can't get it out again?? To me this makes freighters practically pointless. Sure they're an alternate to planet-based bases, but if I'm already well-establised on a planet, why would I bother at this point with freighers? Are we meant to stop setting up planet bases? At least with planets I can setup a teleporter network and can quickly move between bases and even space stations. Freighers feel really pointless to me at the moment.

Do you have any storage containers on your freighter? I don't play experimental so I can't comment on transferring from freighter to base containers if you don't have them on your ship.

Is that how it works? Storage containers on-planet and on-freigher count as the same storage inventory? If so that's the answer I need, but otherwise I'm not sure your reason for bringing it up.
if you built a storage container 0 on your base and one in your freighter they share the same items

I did also get used to having the freighter as a visible-hauler-storage-device. I think now we're back to enjoying the shuttle side of things, cruising up and down from Enterprise (until the teleporter gets upgraded?).

Yep, all your storage containers are linked. So you can build storage containers anywhere in your galaxy and you can access the contents from anywhere. For instance, you could build all 10 containers on a planet and go to another planet and build all 10 again and the contents will be the same, no matter which planet you are on. Same thing if you have them on your freighter.

The 10 containers will have the same contents no matter the location.

Your freighter inventory space is not the same as the containers though. Hopefully that's not confusing. Stuff in your freighter general inventory space is only accessible from your freighter.

That makes me feel ill just thinking about it.

I'm not sure I understand how that's useful. Does that just mean that transfer to and from storage are always "local" to the place they're being accessed? I'm a bit confuesd. Is that how remote transfers are meant to be handled? A case I'm thinking of is, I'm standing at my planet base and I have an item in freighter cargo that I need. Are you saying that, as long as I have a #0 on the freigher AND at my base I can then move an item remotely from freighter to storage to base? I'm failing to see the purpose.

All the storage containers with the same number are linked together. You can have them on your frieghter and multiple bases and they will all have the same contents. The problem with storage containers on freighters is it is very bugged right now. If you place one down as a "room" you have gaps on the side you can fall through into space (where you will die a horrible death). The only workaround I have read about is to use the + corridors and place them on the side halls. Personally I like having my containers lined up next to each other on both side of a hallway so I can easily move stuff from one to another to sort stuff.

But can I *remotely* move stuff from freigher cargo to storage if I have the same # storage container on freighter and on planet?

Stuff that's in your general freighter inventory, you must be on your freighter to access it. You can transfer it from your freighter to your storage containers. But you can't be on your planet and pull things from your freighter inventory space to your other inventory spaces ( containers, suit, star ship. )

It really just depends how you play I guess. I use my freighter for general inventory, frigate consumable mods etc. My regular exo / ship inventory is always full ( i'm a pack rat ) so I'll buy loads of stuff from traders etc. and transfer it to my freighter if I'll be needing it soon.

So if I'm base building on a planet, I just call my freighter pretty much right above my base, drive my ship up, load up what I need and come back down.

/shrug I get plenty of use out of it .. it just depends on what you're doing.

You have to land on the freighter first. No need to get out of ship just for that remote access, though you do have to go upstairs for another type of transfer. It is a fair compromise imo.

To clarify: access your freighter cargo from bay, access storage containers from upstairs or at a planet base.

That's a real pain compared to how it was working (you couldn't move from freighter cargo directly, but you could remotely move from freighter cargo to storage, then access the storage).

Yes I did the same, it was super handy. But again I can only suggest that HG allow us to earn an advanced teleporter for cargo.

I don't know all the intricacies of storage containers now (I keep them on the freighter and use the freighter as my main base), but wouldn't you expect that you should be in the vicinity of the storage to access it? Isn't that the way storage container work?

The freighter is not just some big storage container in the sky that can/should be accessed from anywhere. That would make the freighter pointless because you would never have to go to it (other than for frigate missions, which you apparently don't do).

tbh, if you install a landing-bay in your base, then it is fun to take the shuttle =)
