frost crystals and glass?
I find they are very rare and hard to find. I want to build large buildings with windows. Is there another way to make glass or harvest frost crystals. It is really a 30 minute search on an ice planet just to find some and then harvest enough just to make maybe 5 glass panels?

You can harvest frost crystals by setting up a farm. To unlock the farm, you need to build a cylindrical room (unlocked with the blueprint analyzer), which will allow you to build a construction terminal. Build that, hire the baseoverseer (as per the quest it will give you), and follow his instructions. Eventually, you will be tasked with building an agricultural terminal and setting up a farm.

As far as alternative ways to make glass, I believe 250 silver yields something like 2 glass when placed in a refiner, but it takes a while and is rather inefficient.

By the way, I don't think you should have to search that long to find frost crystal trees. Assuming you're on an ice planet that has frost crystals (I think all ice / snow, etc. planets do), you can use your analysis visor (hold F). While using the visor, look around for icons that have a leaf; these indicate valuable flora, like those that produce Frost Crystals.

Frostwort's not super-hard to find on cold planets, and if you clear out a grove of it, you'll get a lot. The real problem is the 50 frost crystals = 1 glass formula, which I think is kind of harsh. My biodome is almost all frostwort; it's the only plant I ever have had any reason to farm, and it's worth getting to that point in the base farming quests if for nothing else but that. One harvest from one plant is 50 crystals, and you can harvest them over and over every few days.

I may add to that
1 frost crystal + 1 dioxite in refinery = 2 frost crystals.
So yeah refineries if you are ok buying dioxite can be a friend depending on the amount you are after

Any plant put in refiner with it's planetary element counterpart will yield you 2 of the plants (so solanium + Phosphorus / gamma roots + uranium / fungal mold + ammonia / etc)

Edited typos

If you have a base on an ice planet, you can generate a ton of them.

They have one of the fastest grow rates, and with the stuff I planted outside, I have a lot to work with.

But I have wandered around in an Exocraft, and Frostworts aren't exactly abundant when wanting to do anything at a large scale. It took 3-4 clusters of Frostworts to finish up the 5 or so living glass I was wanting to make, because I miscalculated ratios.

But you have a few options, and most of them lean towards a few kinds of farming. Using the refinery is totally an option, and technically is quicker, but it does eat into market supplies fast.

Best way is to do what I'm doing, is make a base (or even a hut), with a teleporter, on an ice planet, and just planet them directly into the ground. 16 or 32 of them would take up a really small spot of land, and each would give 50 Frost Crystals per real-time hour.

Just make farms they grow fast and soon you be swimming in them..

Wow, that is hardcore.
only 3 rows though? i got a 5x5 rrom for both star bulb and solanium. i grow my frost crystals on a nearby planet outdoors though. got a portal to it and everything. it even has a dioxite node next to it so i can generate 1000 dioxite and double it into frost crystals. and i already harvest about 5k frost crystals.

frost crystal if done right, is the single easiest thing to grow a lot of. followed by cactus and Solanium as you can often get their multiplier ore local on the planet.

Wanted to second this. I haven't played NEXT yet, but you can plant them outside if you base on a cold planet.

If you wander over your ice planets at night you should be able to find them easily since they glow. It's a matter of luck on how many you find. I've gone a couple of minutes without seeing any and then found four groups close to each other for over 2000 total.

I guess it depends on the ice planet, because my home base doesn't have anywhere near that much natural Frostwort. Granted, I wouldn't imagine so, if it is also the first planet you land on. Why give a player a really good resource planet when Survival Mode is supposed to be a challenge?

That might be it as well. I might not get as much from the native plants due to the difficulty mode I picked.

Yeah there a bunch of factors that come into play. Other frost planets may see them in greater quantity. Make sure you're upgrading your scanner for optimal range and look for the symbol that looks like a leaf. They're easier to miss than they used to be, despite them being enourmous now.

Getting a good garden going is key. On a frozen planet you can plant them outside so use that to your advantage where you can.

The palnts are easy to spot by eye from the air...

I have 20 Frostwart in hydro-trays... It is all the glass I need, about 20 glass an hour.

In a medium or large refiner:

Sodium Nitrite + (Condensed) Carbon = Dioxite
Dioxite + Oxygen = Frost Crystal
