What is the difference between the Venator & Sentinel Freighters?

Stat wise as well as class is randomnly generated regardless of model.

I am searching for a freighter now and noticed that the Sentinel has 9 guns pr side while the Ven has 17 in total. I decided on the Ven as you can fly out of the hangar fast, the large sentinel has an annoying antenna on the ship which is in the way. And it is cooler to fly above the ven as it is wider. In game though, there is no difference.

Both models actually have three different size variants, again just cosmetic. even the small venator can be an s-class full slots. Edit: Rather than the ramble I originally wrote use this

The outside is all about personal preference. The actual base part of every freighter is identicle, excluding class and slots. Some little hooptie looking industrial style freighter 'functions' just as well as a similarly classed large freighter, they just aren't as fun to look at.

The only downside of the "sentinel" one are those big tall posts in the middle.
I had one of those, I much prefered the look of that one over the Venator, but honnestly it was way more painful dependjng on your approach to deal with said posts...

Now, it's very much doable and you can live with that, it's just really a slight difference in gameplay. you can be certain that if in a rush to get in your freighter, you may get really mad at those posts

I believe the freighters that look like the sentinal battleships are called Dreadnaughts. I'd liked the way they look for a long time, but didn't get one until right before NEXT dropped. I agree the posts right in front of the landing aproach are irritating, but I'm still enjoying it. Got a mid sized one. It took me a bit to work out a new approach for it because of those posts, but once I did its fine, and if I'm in a hurry for some reason, I find I can actually get to the tractor beam faster than with any other freighter I've had because if you're coming up from a planet surface, you can fly directly into in from below, if its been summoned to the right spot. I like having it waiting for me if I've been harvesting walker brains and quad servos.
