Does the Teleport network spoil the game?
Yes I use it all the time. Yes I have been damn glad of it. But I can't help feeling the Teleport mechanic ruins the game. The immersion I mean. It is akin to the Fast Travel in games like Skyrim - I dislike that as well, despite using it liberally. Cant help myself.

It's the fact that your ship goes with you, automatically and free of charge. This is the problem I think. This gives you a way to get from system to system instantly and for free just by teleporting. If you are trading for example, you completely lose the flavour and immersion of hauling all those good around the galaxy avoiding pirates. Just teleport around the multitude of space stations on your list (I must have 50+ by now) and sell high.

Similarly when looking for S-class upgrades of a given type, you will almost certainly find one quickly just by teleporting round your space station list. It removes the specialness of actually stumbling across one through exploration and travel.

Thoughts?

Test this for yourself.

Instead of using the SS teleport, spend 1 gaming session traveling via spaceship to each system that you would normally visit, and see how much that adds to the game for you.

Why would having the technology that enables warping from system to system not be able to teleport you and your ship to previous visited areas? Just assume the landing pads in the space stations double as a teleport for your ship; much more convenient than flying your ship into a teleport ring or making you leave the station to warp.

The fact that you have to FIRST travel to a system in order to be able to use that teleporter negates any "bad mechanic" that some feel. You can't just teleport from system to system if you haven't been there by exploring with your ship first. That is a major part of the game. Once the system is found they yes, you have the OPTION of using the teleporter to GO BACK to systems you have previously visited. With base mechanics, it would be totally unplayable NOT have the teleporter system.

Wait there is a teleporter in the game?
I remember playing Freelancer and transporting goods between systems and avoiding pirates was one of the biggest thrills. That was really cool. Yay I think the teleport system killed some atmosphere in NMS.

Same thing for me and EvE. The transporting of millions of $ of goods in a high pirate/pvp area for 40 minutes at a time was an absolute heartblasting thrill. After 70 hours in next I feel like I only ever teleport now, some times I might go out on a new planet adventure but mainly Im just craft jockying between known worlds stations via portal. without it I would be forced to multi-warp with full inventory and be a big juicy target..

Feel free not to use them. Just because someone plays with a tennis ball and you like a football doesn't mean you need to get all tennis balls removed from area stores. That's how nitpicking petty I think this is.

The new ability to put a base anywhere makes it too easy, though I still like it and only have 5 or 10 bases from rim to core.

I think a better way would be to have a teleporter as mobile tech. They could cost U1b per, and you could leave it anywhere untouched. There was a game where you would throw one in the back of a vehicle (might've been an old idea I worked on, or a released game, I don't recall?).

They can only be used to re-visit, albiet unlimited times. You still have to make a warp jump to get into the system and still need to travel to planets in the system before you can plonk down a teleporter.
I tend to warp in and get to the space station to activate it's TP. Once i've done that I explore the system planets. Imagine my surprise though when I discovered that space stations are not in every single system. My first Cadmium Jump of 82LY landed me with no station, 1 planet and empty warp tanks. I should have stocked up on warp fuel but thought I could go for a long jump and teleport back.
I don't feel they are OP but can definately say that if we didn't have them it would ruin the experience for me. I don't want the game to be a dull bus route planner for the re-visits.

Wait are you saying we don't need to claim a base to place a Terminus? Really! lol if I missed that, and wow way too easy, charge 1.8b per.

You guys do know that there is a random chance that you lose some of your cargo, maybe even something very valuble or rare, each time you teleport?
MaddogDino Aug 17, 2018 @ 6:58am
Have to plonk down a base computer and claim the plot b4 building the TP but basically that's all you need on planet for it.

News to me but then I am New to the game. Bought it recently.
Over at least 100 TP uses so far and not lost anything.
Where does it tell us this?

Yea I just checked. I think a mobile unit would be better though. The base list is long enough, a mobile teleporter receiver list could be an extra dimension rather than go anywhere ever been.

I am in the "if you don't like teleporters don't use them" camp. Recognise that if you think your game would be more enjoyable without them, yet you still use them, then the problem if any is with you, not the game.

Your example of looking for S class upgrades is a good one. Yes, you can probably get one by going around your teleport list. However, for a station to be on the list, you must have already visited it. You could have made a note of where you found S class upgrades, and just warped back there, even without a teleporter. Makes no difference to exploration, just removes the repetition of warping to places you have already been.

The teleporter is game breaking from my view I mean why add the warp drive system? And then add the teleporter that allow players to instantly teleport there after discovering it.. It makes no sence to me, And is used to do nothing but exploit game mechanics such as trading. Buy a crap load of stuff from one station, Teleport to another system, Sell for stupid money.. The teleporter should use rare exotic fuel to charge it, Maybe the "Subterranean Relics" or some other alien tech.
