How to keep upgrades when switching ships/multitools?
Can we somehow port over upgrades when switching to new ship/multi Tool? I don’t seem to be able to, which is really a deterrent to buying new ones.

you can dismantle them and get some mats back but that is it

Does anyone know if there is a mod that can do this?
clannagh Aug 14, 2018 @ 6:01pm
If you edit the game file you can do whatever you want.

No, and there's really no need. Just convert Platinum or Runaway Mould into Nanites with a refinery and buy all the upgrades again.

After the very early portion of the game, this is a very minor inconvenience.

Would rather have it just be a part of my game where I can just click them over to my new ship just like all the other items.

Didnt know about those conversions to get nanites. I would still love to just be able to click my uprgades and tech over to my new ship/tool like everything else. Thanks for the tips though

Save Editor has a built in UI to add upgrades to any tool or ship. I didn't like that part though.

I really only use it to modify inventory slots.

It's better to just buy them.

I know what you mean though, you find that new Multitool and you start thinking about all the upgrades you'll have to find and buy because it's totally random and you might not see this MT again, etc.

They love this. They do it to you on purpose.

It's actually not bad though as you get to try different configurations and weapons.

I just try to buy and save a few S Mining and S Scanner modules and whatever else I have and store em so if I do find that Multitool I'll already have most of the upgrades ready to go.

Which is even more reason I have problems with the storage in this game...

Or you could just keep track of which stations carry your favorite S ranked upgrades, and then teleport there and buy 'em again as needed in like, 2 minutes. Since those lists are fixed, and restock every time you use the teleporter to go out of the system and back.

Thanks for tip - but it’s partly about the hassle of going back and purchasing all those individual upgrades again, sigh...

Yeah, that's why I keep a notepad where I write down a list of the systems where I found each S ranked upgrade that I instaled. If you do that it's really not that much of a hassle to buy the stuff again.

I guess it's easier for old people like myself, that were used to the days when part of enjoying a game was making your own hand drawn maps and filling in your pen-and-paper notebook with various bits and bobs that you discovered. :P

Yeah I’ll start doing that - thanks again

Once I got my ships all set up again with tech, I started buying a new set for some future ship I don't have and dropping them into storage.
Also, So far as I've seen, anything with 'Jn' as the abreviation will eventually turn into nanites. Residual goop, living slime, mold, and a couple others. Just keep dropping them back into the refiner until they turn into nanites. I think its the junk you find in abandoned buildings that takes 4 trips through the refiner to turn nanite.
Scan and upload everything, and do missions. Lots of nanites there. It's much easier to get them now than in the past.

Residual Goop -> Viscous Fluid -> Living Slime -> Runaway Mould -> Nanites.

Jn stands for 'junk', and not all junk turns to nanites. Rusted metal is a Junk item that turns into Ferrite Dust for example.

Each step of refining takes 6 minutes for each stack of 250, except the last, Runaway Mould -> Nanites takes about 1 minute.
