Are Creatures Procedurally Created?
I keep seeing similiar to the same animals on nearly every planet I go to. Instead of being like the fun looking 2016/Early 2017 days of the game were you find all kinds of weird and wild creatures on the worlds, now I'm seeing more copy-and-paste this animal everywhere, maybe change it a tiny bit, but not much. What's up with that?

Yes they are procedurally generated, but with some very restricted parameters. That's why you won't see flying cows or such things :)

Yes I was just thinking: the first releases of the game were terrible and such things did happen, I haven't seen these monsters in NEXT yet, but HG has improved the fauna.

Thanks for the answer. Shame the weirdness factor hasn't been amped up more though. Way too much copying of the same species to different worlds. For instance, the hopping tentacle-legged mushroom-looking creatures (kind of looks like a hopping squid). I've seen that one on many planets.

the only ones I notic repeating are those 'slim' looking creatures and those flying hotdogs.

And still too many arachnids...

I haven't seen any spiders.

Yes. And the other hoppers as well: the ones with the flower on their head, and the sorta marshmellows. I suppose these are predesigned in their entirety. The more 'beast'-like looking animals are probably modular compositions, so they are much mored varied and unique in their appearance.

I ran into some flying "cows". Maybe they're pigs. Not sure. Was a surprising find after 100s of hours ;-)

As for the game update notes, HG has made the effort to improve fauna by adding herd behavior, but still the problem is the 'fast spawn': suddenly a vast terrain that was empty before gets filled with herds...humm.. But generally I feel most creatures are more 'adapted' to their planet now.

I trully think that the pictures above will not please HG, such animals with large legs and feet should simply not be able to fly, they are not designed as such by nature because they wouldn't survive for very long, concurrent animals that spend less energy - without flying - will eradicate them.
The educational effect for any youngsters playing the game is terrrible, they may get a distorted view of biology.
Apparently, it shows how difficult the procedural generation can get.

Apparsntly (assuming the game represents a reality) these creatures managed to survive until now. Maybe some cavities in their bodies contain a gas lighter than the atmosphere, enabling them to float.

Tell that to the bees! They apparently aren't supposed to be able to fly either. It's science fiction, anything is possible, and really it's just a game, lighten up... :)

Good Science-Fiction (e.g. Isaak Asimov, Philip K. D.) makes anticipation of good and working science, it shouldn't tell fee or ghost stories, that's a waste of time. While for certain players these flying cows are amusing, it should just be ridiculous for every educated person. Ridiculous and amusing are 2 categories entirely.

However I will accept these flaws - like howering bricks, too small and non-orbital solar systems etc. for all the other joy the game offers. Reality is also what you can abstract from it, in other words: Like in the movie Matrix, don't look too close at it and you are fine...Question is how far you can go with it.

that's actually been figured out for a while now. using super slow motion film and smoke they found out that the way the wings bend they creat a very low pressure under the wings that rolles back across the body creating a more even low pressure along the entire langth.
