Building parts "invalid position" NEEDS FIXING
Hello Games - for the sake of our sanity can you PLEASE do something about the seemingly random "invalid position" when placing building parts - especially the cuboid ones.

I've spent close to 20 (TWENTY) hours making my mega base and more than a few of those was trying to figure out how to place base parts - sometimes I'd have to tear down sections I'd build and approach from a different way to get them to place - but the last few minutes has been the final straw. I've just added another glass cuboid level on top of a previous one and it will only let me place floor sections for HALF THE FLOOR, the other half... nope. - there's nothing underneath or to the sides or ANYWHERE NEAR that would cause previous known clipping problems that require a workaround.

I'm done.

They don't even follow any logical "rules" because it will let me place a floor tile directly onto a section where stairs end on a level lower down in the same area, but not on the new level - the parameters are THE SAME, but "game says... nope".

I can place walls that hang down above where I want the floor - but add the floor? no.

Edit - I've just added another layer above aaand - yup I can lay a whole floor, but not on the next level down?????

There's no logic at all to how some things will place in one position and won't elsewhere.

PLEASE do something about this - oh and while you're at it - it would be nice to make the base storage containers fit inside ONE cuboid space not two (vertically) - either the top protrudes above the floorline - or the bottom does below, either way you can't place anything large in that space above or below.

Look at these images:

I can place it here at the top of stairs lower down

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521249254

but not here at the top of stairs next level up:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521249297

Here at the bottom of a wall:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521249160

but not here above the same position:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521249112

It's simply maddening so have so many "invalid position" issues with building parts. Some stuff you'll allow to be placed where you wouldn't think you could - like right above stairs, but then you won't allow things to be placed where there's plenty of space - and nothing to cause clipping issues:

Exhibit E:

------------------- update (several hours later) ---------------------

Edit 2 - OK Hello Games - this is REALLY taking the urine - look at these three pictures:

Pay close attention to the error message (Ive added a comment that shows what it says)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521412847

Now look at the biodome:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521412911

and now look at where it is in relation to the spaceship on the ground (by the trees)
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1521416708

Now tell me Hello Games - do you think the spaceship is in the way of my planting inside the biodome - or do you think maybe you should look at this garbage code?

Sorry if I sound less than thrilled to have my time wasted like this.

Sometimes there are workarounds, like if you can get a floor to place anywhere at all build out from it and then remove it later. Does not always work though.

The most annoying to place for me are ramps. 3 out of 4 failure rate. That and not being able to place straight ladders on the inside walls. Containers also sort of suck until you get the trick of it.

I've placed a room but can't walk through the door, I need a ramp but the ramp won't turn green so I can plade it!

Grab the Eucli-ea mod by WinderTP https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/367

Even if you don't want any of the decorations, there is an optional file "_MOD.Winder.HubFlag_CubeSnap.pak" which has a small magical paving stone that embeds itself into almost any building elements and allows other pieces to snap to it.

For Example: Sarah's problem of not being able to place a ramp, embed the paving stone beneath the door and the ramp will snap to it.

I've used it to line up walls and snap floors against invalid placements. I've also used it to get a floor to butt up perfectly to a landingpad which allowed me to get rid of the stupid doors on each side of the pad providing a perfect walkway with no gaps.

The paving slabs primary use is to snap against cube rooms which opens a doorway into the room but it has so many other uses and is an essential tool in my building.

It is a royal pain! I will often place an Oscilloscope on top of one of those Desks at most of my bases. I put a Blue Control Panel next to it, and using a mod, I can access the mission system from my bases by clicking on the panel.

But on many occasions, that scope never turns green in order to be placed! Same process I have used all those times before without a problem now is a problem for some reason at another base location. No rhyme or reason behind it either, since there is nothing around the desk that would be blocking the object.

As as I said... I have created the exact same workstation dozens of times before without this problem. It really is annoying! Especially when you are trying to place some major piece to cap off an entire floor plan, and it won't go down!

I LOVE that mod! Can't imagine building a base without it! I actually didn't know it had that option! I have always used the other pak without that in it. Didn't know what the other one did differntly.

You could never create a convincing scientific research facility interior like this with the limited offerings in the Vanilla version!

I can't recommend that mod highly enough for anyone serious about base building!

I'm surprised more people haven't commented - is base building just not done much in NMS or are most bases just a few simple buildings?

Most people have said what they wanted a month or more ago, and don't feel like saying any more.

A person can only rant for so long before they just quit.

yup. cant even place a floor in front of a door so I had to use terrain manipulator so I dont have to jetpack into my door every time for a tiny incline my character cant walk up.

I'm unable to place that either. Always red.

Seems I can't even use the last step up with stairs - I have to jethop over it - collision detection isn't great is it?

It is actually rather odd that connecting cubical interior stairs to cubical interior flooring means you need to jetpack off the stairs at the top and onto the flooring even though the lip is tiny, but that just seems how it works.

Try looking up when you are going up the cubiod room stairs. I look at the ceiling over the landing and *most* of the time go up the stairs to the next level without stalling at that little lip.
