The most annoying to place for me are ramps. 3 out of 4 failure rate. That and not being able to place straight ladders on the inside walls. Containers also sort of suck until you get the trick of it.
Even if you don't want any of the decorations, there is an optional file "_MOD.Winder.HubFlag_CubeSnap.pak" which has a small magical paving stone that embeds itself into almost any building elements and allows other pieces to snap to it.
For Example: Sarah's problem of not being able to place a ramp, embed the paving stone beneath the door and the ramp will snap to it.
I've used it to line up walls and snap floors against invalid placements. I've also used it to get a floor to butt up perfectly to a landingpad which allowed me to get rid of the stupid doors on each side of the pad providing a perfect walkway with no gaps.
The paving slabs primary use is to snap against cube rooms which opens a doorway into the room but it has so many other uses and is an essential tool in my building.
But on many occasions, that scope never turns green in order to be placed! Same process I have used all those times before without a problem now is a problem for some reason at another base location. No rhyme or reason behind it either, since there is nothing around the desk that would be blocking the object.
As as I said... I have created the exact same workstation dozens of times before without this problem. It really is annoying! Especially when you are trying to place some major piece to cap off an entire floor plan, and it won't go down!
I LOVE that mod! Can't imagine building a base without it! I actually didn't know it had that option! I have always used the other pak without that in it. Didn't know what the other one did differntly.
You could never create a convincing scientific research facility interior like this with the limited offerings in the Vanilla version!

I can't recommend that mod highly enough for anyone serious about base building!
A person can only rant for so long before they just quit.
Seems I can't even use the last step up with stairs - I have to jethop over it - collision detection isn't great is it?
It is actually rather odd that connecting cubical interior stairs to cubical interior flooring means you need to jetpack off the stairs at the top and onto the flooring even though the lip is tiny, but that just seems how it works.
Try looking up when you are going up the cubiod room stairs. I look at the ceiling over the landing and *most* of the time go up the stairs to the next level without stalling at that little lip.
thanks will try that
+1
This! SO f'ing much! How hard can it be to place a ramp? !?
