You can jump in there are find your Frigates if you want. Provided they don't jump out before you find them.
Hopefully they expand on this in future.

I have heard some rumors that if you have a damaged frigate on a mission that you can use this mechanic to jump to the system that Frigate is in and repair it in situ. As opposed to recalling it back to your Freighter and removing it from the Task Force.
I haven't had a damaged Frigate in over 5 weeks now, so I have not been able to test this claim. But since you are new to the whole Frigate thing, give that a try if you get the opportunity.
I guess all you would need would be the name of the mission the damaged ship (s) is/are on. Although it might be somewhat tricky in determining which ship is damaged.
Hopefully the damage indicators actually function when in this scenario?
