As far as slot counts go... It doesn't take all that much more time to camp out for a 20/6 slot version. If it is model you really like and especially if it is one of the three I showcased above, it is well worth the extra time.
All three of the ships I listed are also 20/6 slot versions with very good specs overall.
Now you've got me wondering about the mechanics of this.
(gah! dang it!)
Back during Atlas Rises, there were about 8 of us on Reddit all looking for those three ships. None of us ever found the Guppy.
Like everyone else in that group of like-minded Exotic Ship Hunters, I kept a list of models and color combos. There is only a finite amount of each, so you soon know which ones are missing from the list.
Thanks! :o)
There is nothing official. These stats are just based on over a year of hunting down all the various versions and checking them off the list. Same goes for our group of hunters that were all looking for the same ships.
Pretty much 90% of the Squid Ship colors discovered and shared online were from our group.
The NMS Seed Club Site is a good indicator of rarity as well. I did post the Seed for the White/Gold T7 last year because I was getting so many requests for it in PM on Reddit.
But I never did publish the seed for the Blue/Gold T7 shown above. I shared it with my Hunter buddies, but they talked me out of making it public. Simply because of how rare it is.
That would be cool, but unfortunately, those are all trick of the light sitings. All Exotic ships have only one base color and a Gold or Platinum accent color. No such thing as a Two Toned paint job yet. Closest is the Squid with its purple arms that fade into the base color. But that is the Squid' answer to the Gold or Platinum accent color that it doesn't have. ;o)
The white versions are often mistaken for every color of the rainbow due to how reflective that color is. It takes on the tint of the surrounding light sources, and has been claimed to be all kinds of color combos that don't actually exist in the game.
Best way to confirm what you've got is to open the ship's specs/inventory screen and see what color the ship is in there.
They are:
Red, White, Blue, Yellow, Copper Metallic. (often referred to as orange at lower resolutions)
That's it!
Not possible in the Vanilla version of the game. Two toned exotic ship color combos are not in the code
Could be a mod I guess, allthough I have never seen or heard of such a mod.
I would be willing to bet it was a White ship reflecting Red and Blue external lighting. Or something along those same lines with a blue or red base colored ship.
Easy to confirm or deny on your end by simply opening the ship's inventory menu and looking at the color combo in the STATS section.
Would LOVE to see a screenshot of this ship you are describing posted on Steam taken directly from the Photo Mode of the game. I would consider any external photo sharing site suspect.
Close, but no cigar. That is the Yellow/Platinum version of the same ship. Not super common, but also not particularly rare either.
The rare ones really can get your goat because you can often find their Platinum or in some cases Gold sibling all over the place if you are focusing on hunting these down.. ;o)
Nah dude, yellow ones are easy to find.
Can also vouch this is the best way to save yourself the guess work. Was after a certain vK fighter S-class and the approach render, environment, lighting, all messed with it.
BTW Love that seed site. Didn't know you were a contributor. Thanks for all your work and your group!
Time to hit the lottery
Thanks! It was fun to share those back then with other players.
The creator of that site was one of the hunters from back in the day. I gave him some of his first Squid Ships when he opened for business. That was back when most players hadn't discovered any yet, or realized how many colors that one ship came in! Unlike the rest of the Exotics which as I posted above, have only 10 possible color combos per model.
The Squid proved to have the largest number of unique ship colors by a wide margin. Players are still finding new ones even now! :o)
And YES! There is a PINK SQUID out there in the black! ;o)
