I don't think stuff from your own saved game goes over to the multiplayer session, though.
So I guess you'd have to nominate one player to host the "shared" base, and you can only work on it when you've joined his game.
To be honest, this is best-guess conjecture based on the stuff I've been reading in the gaming press today. It might be completely different in the flesh.
Only four days to wait to find out one way or the other.
You can find random players. But trading and base building is only possible within your group.
Actually there was an article that did state that there is not "host" when players are in a party every player is "equal" Everything you collect in multiplayer is stored locally for singleplayer and vice versa such as items, money, etc and i assume this works for MP aswell.
And there is also no range limit so that players in your party can be in different systems and what not and still be "in-game" :)
I think your misunderstanding somewhat.
The game is hosted by player(s) as in there is no centralised server that you all connect to.
I'm not so sure that it'll join a primary instance, as opposed to just spamming everyones instance with updates from the other ones, making you all hosts in effect.
Bases, if they have been uploaded with the base computer, will be visible to anyone. In multiplayer if you join a fiend with an existing save, and it has to be the same type of game (standard, survival, hardcore) you will be in the same system as your friend in space provided you have your ship spaceworthy, otherwise will will start on their starter planet working on your ship. You will keep all progress, and save your game as usual, but if you try to load that game in "play" mode, not "join" you will be back at the last location you saved in Play mode.
What I don't know is where the save goes if you create a new game to play with your friend, it only seems available when joining that friend.
It would be nice to be able to be able to start on the same world and stay connected. Know when your friends are even when offline, share access to bases and freighters, etc.
This is not true: "Bases, if they have been uploaded with the base computer, will be visible to anyone. " All you see is the base computer and the name of the base. If there are more than one active bases on the planet then only the last one put down will be visable and only as the base computer.
