Move camera when in free rotate mode? (PC)
I'm having one heck of a time getting things to line up like I want them to when building my base, with the most troublesome issue being the lack of fine movement control.
Specifically I can rotate the piece the way I want it to be, but when I go to line it up I'm unable to do so because I'm not "standing" in the right spot- and it seems impossible to move while the free-rotate menu is active. Since I kind of need the piece to be rotated to *see* where it needs to go, are there any good workarounds for this?

Or a better question- is there ANYTHING out there that lets you fine-tune positioning, instead of just fine-tuning rotation? Because spending an hour trying to figure out how to rotate a piece slightly when I can't actually *put it where I want it* is frustrating the hell out of me. And I'm not talking about an "invalid position" issue- I'm just trying to get something to line up.

If this is what you're asking the build camera works differently from photo mode camera. Specifically, movement is tied into the direction you are looking. So I have found that moving up and down using W/S requires looking in the direction (axis) that you want to move on. E.g. to move down look straight up and hold S. Of course I am just getting used to this myself, and no idea if there is a mod for this, haven't looked.
The HUD options when in the build mode, should in most cases give you the option to increase the scale of an object and also rotate it around the Y or Z axis. I think the <CNTRL> key held down in combination with A,D and Q,E allows rotaion. W and S scale of the object. If you do not select another object the orientation and scale will remain until you place the object.

Once in the build menu if you press 'C' on the keyboard you should go into the build camera view and you can move your viewpoint into any position you like. This is similar to the screenshot camera mode. This helps position your viewpoint into a location easy to see what your are working on.

In combination with the above you can be very precise in lining up objects. There are limits to how close some objects will sit next to each other. Objects can also be pinned to wires to some extent.

A console type controller for PC may give you the flexibility and level of control that might be lacking with keyboard and mouse. The button set ups sort of work best because of the arrangement of the ergonomic layout. Though you can customise the keys on any keyboard to how you want. I use a combination of mouse, keyboard and controller with some customisation for my preference.

I seem to be having a problem with positioning the piece itself more than anything else. It wants to snap, but not stay at the angle I need it, or it will be off by a few degrees, or it wants to be on the ground instead of up in the air, etc. I wish there were tools to position an item like there are to rotate an item, with pressing a key to move it up or down, or left and right.
In the meantime, I've found a mod that will let me do all these things in Blender, so meh. Just annoyed that I have to use 3rd party software to do what I want.
