Multiplayer with NEXT: TRUE cross-platform?
So with the announcement of multiplayer on its way inside of two months... is there any word on if Sony is going to stop being a dumpster fire and allow actual cross-platform or if HelloGames has attempted to convince them to allow it? They (Sony) have been the linchpin to not letting it happen thus far and nothing would make No Man's Sky more fun than being able to bring three communities together as opposed to (potentially) just PC and Xbox One players.

Theres no competitive edge on this game for console and pc players. Theres no reason why we couldnt play with them and merge universes. Plus it'll allow alot of PC players to play with their IRL console playing friends. Xbox has done it right so far, cross platform is the way to go for these types of games. Stuff like COD or w/e is a definite no no for obvious reasons.

Mainly id love to play with my friend who is on PS4. I have it on PS4 also but i prefer playing on PC.

Exactly this. The game doesn't have a "competitive statistics / esports" following like CoD and others. Back in September of last year, I read (with a TON of glee) that Epic "accidentally" allowed Fortnite players on PS4 and Xbox One to play together.
It's not a logistics issue. It's not an incompatibility issue. This was controlled by the actual company that handled the game. All Sony has to do is say "yes" to this one particular title and it would draw more attention to it. Sony ratings would increase (albeit a little bit, not a ton)- and it would be an immense step in the right direction.
As Epic was able to do it "by accident", this tells me that Hello Games should be able to implement it as well- but they would just need Sony's blessing to do so!

I don't believe it truly does. It would mean that certain hardware would definitely have disadvantages potentially... but no, Windows 7 -CAN- cross-platform with ease like 10. Server-side, it's all handled on the back end to let them communicate.

Cross platform is do-able but there is one small problem...which is Sony. Due to the way the software of the playstation it is actually rather hard to do cross platform easily. The Xbox players have it a bit easier, especially since Windows and Xbox both belong to Microsoft. Even Nintendo has it easier with cross platform than Sony does. The code is rather closed off, kind of like Apple does a bit, more than the other consoles.

For some weird reason Sony also really doesn't like cross platform. Take Rocket League for instance. Everyone could play with each other, regardless of on what kind of platform they were playing...except Playstation players. Fortnite still has issues. And it has a lot to do with Sony's end. They just don't seem to like to open up their playerbase to that of other platforms.

Doubt it. The universes are already separated by platform. The same planet could have a name in the PC universe and another in PS4. Discoveries are not shared between the two. Which universe would you squash and which would you keep?

assuming multiplayer will be a different gamemode, there's no reason to annihilate the old saves in order to make multiplayer cross-platform.

I'm not sure how this adds anything to the discussion but no, I don't leave reviews in general. With the amount of trolls on steam and how innaccurate the reviews on steam are I don't see the point of them. If something interests me based on pictures or description I'll look at some let's plays because the reviews here on steam are pretty much useless to me. I am aware I have weird tastes occasionally and things that bother others don't always bother me and things that others go meh over I get enthousiastic about. So a review from me would also be rather useless to others.

I, myself am praying it will be a seperate mode, actually.

I doubt it to be honest. If it is in there i would bet only between pc and xbox one.

But it would be cool, the chances to meet other people would be so much higher.

I just hope they prevent people with mods playing online or have some anti cheat in it.

Multiplayer is the opiate of the masses.

Actually I think being able to set up a private server may be even better than a seperate mode. That takes care of the mod problem because the individual running the server will determine what mods will be used or not used. ARK has the ability to do procedurally generated worlds and private servers. I think if NMS would offer the same thing it could make everybody happy. Single players continue their way and multiplayer can be played with friends or anybody you allow to play on your private server.
