I only got the game in December so that's on the current patch.
I commented about this on another thread somewhere.
Here’s the you tube clip, worked for me. Got all 16 glyphs from the same traveller grave. Once I found the grave I just flew off for a bit, short period of time, to another planet or space station off memory , came back, got next glyph. Rinse repeat.

Also something I didn’t know, now I got all glyphs, I stumbled across another traveler grave in my journeys , and it gave me 100 or so nanites .
Ahh, that explains it! I dropped a beacon under a trading post on the planet I'm using to harvest suphurine; the atmosphere harvesters are planted nearby. And a Traveler has taken up residence on the main platform along with the usual crowd of V'ykeen hanger's on. Now I know why.
Totally random. ^^
Come to think of it, I probably haven't seen a single traveller (except 2 I couldn't talk to on a freighter) in my last 100 hours or so of play though - so long dry spell here.
It took me very long time to get all 16 glyphs, probably 200-300+hrs. In process of exploring, stopping in space stations, outposts, communications buildings, etc - you should have low random chance of finding them. I think in the game the glyphs are meant to be a side-effect of playing the game - not a goal. Other than exploits there's nothing you can do to make travellers show up more often than visit lots of potential sites where they might show up. I remember going long long periods of time without seeing even one traveller and then finding one or two (sometimes in same location). When it happens it's a rare event that's exciting in the context of the game. Just keep some nanites on hand to find the graves and enjoy the surprise when it happens. ;-) But do stop at as many places as you can while exploring.
I've only gone through a portal once to travel to visit another player's base anyhow. Not something I've even used that much, but it's a cool part of the story.
I just started a new game on normal and the seconded trading station I went to had a traveler .
Edit: They have turned up more recently when travelling to Systems primarily with Prosperous economies, however cannot confirm any relation
Basically the game is designed so that taking part in the missions, following the story (if not already done so) and playing the game will help finding travellers without randomly hoping to just come across them through wandering exploration (though that is possible). You increase your odds in finding them by taking part in missions.
The bonus of course is by completing missions you also find recipes and complete gear you need. Having completed all that the game has to offer I found that I still find travellers but with greater frequency actively having fun choosing missions.
For me now it is all about exploration and picking missions helps with gathering units needed resources and so on. Travellers are now the surprise bonus and fun to come across, without actively trying to find them.
If you did not know already you can use Creative Mode without penalty to experiment with Portal Travel with all Glyphs unlocked.
That helps if there is a forum event on in the No Man's Sky Universe and you find that you are no where near any particular Star System. If you can not get there in Normal Mode or any mode that is not Creative mode and want to see a published Portal Address simply use Creative Mode. :) Bear in mind though Creative mode is restricted to that Creative universe so psuedo-multiplay can only interact with fellow Creative mode visitors.
Playing Creative mode be aware though you still need to play the game to collect recipes and increase storage/tech slots etc. So it is worth starting a Creative Mode game save and have fun experimenting.
When I ask for directions at trading posts I generally am directed to an Abandoned Building, Crashed Freighter, Signal Tower or Operations Facility. I've offered trinkets/plutonium before getting directions and I haven't seen a single traveler at any of these.
When I go to a new system I always visit the space station . . no travelers.
For some reason, my game isn't generating Travelers at all.
The beacon trick seems to work for most people, but it hasn't worked for me.
