But the ones that I got appeared at my base station so Im lucky :-)
It's easier to follow in first person mode as you can also track the light dot on the scanner, should you lose sight of the NPC ship. Also NPCs will often follow the indicated route lines, drawn faintly in space, connecting planets to planets and space stations to trade posts and even NPC freighters.
Good luck,
I think the point is, at least how I'm reading it, is the turnaround is faster by reloading even if the spawn is a set rate you shave 15 seconds or so off the rotation. Again that's why I asked if there was any benefit at all to just waiting. I've been at it for two hours, but I think it just may be RNG hell.
Most posts I've seen concerning the subject put it at about an hour doing it this way.
I would just play the game and not care, at some point you will for sure meet such an exotic. So why wasting your time to wait? The only reason to wait at trading posts is: if you meet it on space station you may not be willing to exchange your current ship with it, and you cannot summon other ones, and if you leave the ship is gone. You can avoid this at trading posts. But that's hardly enough of a reason, for me at least. Play the game and buy it when you see it. And: You may wait for nothing because not all exotics are that great...If they have misplaced slots you won't be able to fully upgrade them.
When I acquired one of my current exotics, I spotted it flying around in space and I followed it to an NPC freighter where it landed. I was able to make the purchase because I had enough cash and an open slot in my ship fleet.
But there are usually 7-8 ships that show up, with 4-5 of them that land (5 land if your ship isn't sitting on a pad), and the rest circle around. If you boost away to do a fast loop around a decently far landmark, and then boost back before doing slow and tight turns around the Trading Post. You can often spot the approaching ships and can do another reset loop before they have much of a chance to land. Exotic ships usually stand out among the crowd, so spotting them while in still in the air is doable.
But if you want a passive way to find an exotic ship, just go about playing as normal. Typically you can hear the distinctive landing sound they make. If I didn't know any better, I could sear the landing sounds of those things were louder than the normal ships. So loud it often catches my attention while inside my base.
Constantly reloading my last save really is boring to find that s class ship I want. Same with finding an s class freighter. Would be great if they made ship trading a bit more advanced that if you stumble on a ship that you can pick a ship within your collection to trade it with.
I try to scan the ships in the pattern before they start their final approach (not necessary with Exotics ofc) to get things expedited.
No matter what you do, don´t expect a good find within a short time, you´d be very lucky...
Another option I sometimes use: When the traffic flow is good at the Spacestation, I just sit there in a corner and watch the ships approaching while doing other things (like reading the discussions/ a book, cleaning up my desk ;)
@Sloffie: like that advanced ship trading idea a lot!
