When using the reload method to find exotic ships...
...at a trading post. Do you reload as soon as you scan those first 5-6 incoming ships, or is there any reason to wait?

What do you mean by 'reload' exactly??
Gojak_v3 Apr 29, 2019 @ 3:40pm
Reload yer last save. I think the logic is it's faster to reload. You get 5-7 new ships incoming each time you reload. But I don't know if there is any reason to wait some. Or just scan those ships real quick and if it's not there reload.

Ah ok m8 ye I get it now lol. I think if u aim for an S class, maby it's worth while, I dunno...

I'm in a one planet wealthy system (which is what I've seen recommended), but I've been at it for like two hours and nothing yet. I know each system has one exotic ship. So just wondering if I'm doing something wrong with it being so long. Or if it's just the curse of RNG.

I'm not even sure the time saved is all that much over just waiting. Maybe 15 seconds per cycle. I guess it adds up.

I had luck with 2 S classes in very short period of time and I wasen't looking for it nor had the intend to switch, but for some odd reason, id trade my 41 slot B class for a 15 slot s class. Dunno why but I feel quilty for doing that lol. I think its very random waittime, I don't actualy know the physics or math how and when they appear in what system I read that they be appear random.
But the ones that I got appeared at my base station so Im lucky :-)
You can actually follow any ship to their next destination. It's a little awkward as there is no 'cruise control' to sit back and simply follow your target. Landing at another trade post, that the NPC ships are also heading too, you can catch them up. Often ships taking off head to the Space Station as like you, the NPCs do trades.

It's easier to follow in first person mode as you can also track the light dot on the scanner, should you lose sight of the NPC ship. Also NPCs will often follow the indicated route lines, drawn faintly in space, connecting planets to planets and space stations to trade posts and even NPC freighters.

You wait of course. Why? exotics spawn randomly (all others are set), but the more ships come-in the more likely it will be that an exotic one spawns at some point. Reloading too early doesn't help, I'm not even sure it helps at all, the spawn % is set once you enter system the first time, and reloading doesn' t change it to get better chances.

Good luck,

I think the point is, at least how I'm reading it, is the turnaround is faster by reloading even if the spawn is a set rate you shave 15 seconds or so off the rotation. Again that's why I asked if there was any benefit at all to just waiting. I've been at it for two hours, but I think it just may be RNG hell.

Most posts I've seen concerning the subject put it at about an hour doing it this way.

I would just play the game and not care, at some point you will for sure meet such an exotic. So why wasting your time to wait? The only reason to wait at trading posts is: if you meet it on space station you may not be willing to exchange your current ship with it, and you cannot summon other ones, and if you leave the ship is gone. You can avoid this at trading posts. But that's hardly enough of a reason, for me at least. Play the game and buy it when you see it. And: You may wait for nothing because not all exotics are that great...If they have misplaced slots you won't be able to fully upgrade them.

You may have luck spotting an exotic ship circling your freighter or the space station. Of course, once you spot it, you can determine whether it is worth waiting at a trading station for a chance to purchase one.

When I acquired one of my current exotics, I spotted it flying around in space and I followed it to an NPC freighter where it landed. I was able to make the purchase because I had enough cash and an open slot in my ship fleet.

On a one planet system fly around in a 'trade in' ship, unless you have the funds to buy an exotic outright. IME reloading doesn't help much at a trade depot. More so at the space station. It seems to me to be more of an RNG thing. You could try the SS, reloading after NPC spawns slow down, after awhile if no luck fly back down to the depot, and wait it out. Sometimes the exotic will appear fast, sometimes it takes time. Keep your eyes on the circling ship, they are easy to spot when coming in for a land. Good luck!

I found that just flying far enough away from the Trading Post to unload the location, forcing NPC ships there to leave, and flying back to reload the Trading Post back in for new NPC ships to come in was just as fast (or faster if running the program on a HDD) as reloading from a save file, and was a lot less tiresome.

But there are usually 7-8 ships that show up, with 4-5 of them that land (5 land if your ship isn't sitting on a pad), and the rest circle around. If you boost away to do a fast loop around a decently far landmark, and then boost back before doing slow and tight turns around the Trading Post. You can often spot the approaching ships and can do another reset loop before they have much of a chance to land. Exotic ships usually stand out among the crowd, so spotting them while in still in the air is doable.

But if you want a passive way to find an exotic ship, just go about playing as normal. Typically you can hear the distinctive landing sound they make. If I didn't know any better, I could sear the landing sounds of those things were louder than the normal ships. So loud it often catches my attention while inside my base.

MechWarden you have solid advice there. Never really thought about doing that.
Constantly reloading my last save really is boring to find that s class ship I want. Same with finding an s class freighter. Would be great if they made ship trading a bit more advanced that if you stumble on a ship that you can pick a ship within your collection to trade it with.

When I´m looking for a specific ship at a trading post, I usually reload after the first wave of ships approaching and hope for a better lineup if I didn´t get lucky that time.
I try to scan the ships in the pattern before they start their final approach (not necessary with Exotics ofc) to get things expedited.

No matter what you do, don´t expect a good find within a short time, you´d be very lucky...

Another option I sometimes use: When the traffic flow is good at the Spacestation, I just sit there in a corner and watch the ships approaching while doing other things (like reading the discussions/ a book, cleaning up my desk ;)

@Sloffie: like that advanced ship trading idea a lot!
