Should i buy a new ship?
So i'm finally far enough along that i building my base, and got to the vehicle pad, and now the starship pad.. I noticed ships started landing on it before i used it so i decided to build a second one so i can park, and get visitors at the same time.

Well one ship landed, it is a C-class ship, with not many bonuses, i think just a +9% to one stat, but it does have 24 slots verse my 13 is it? (starter ship) It seams like a decent upgrade for the time being but it will take just about all my funds to do so.

Can i just park my extra ship off the landing pad at my base and then swap ships? Do i need to keep it on a landing pad? I am not really sure how switching ships works.

I suppose i could wait for another ship too, as i have enough quests, and places to explore near me atm, so hoarding more money isn't a bad thing. It seams like now that i have refiners the need to go hunting for many resources is over?

any thoughts on this?

Why buy another ship when you can get a slightly used one for free? With a few navigation data cards and the signal booster, you can scan the distress frequencies channel which may provide a lead on an actual crashed starship. Then, with enough elbow grease and gumption, you can rebuild that little beauty back in the garage to show off those 'leet mechanican skills.

Crashed ships added to your inventory (up to six total) add to your capital assets. When fixed up using materials found or fabricated, they can add significant value to your portfolio. You could trade the broken ship for less than full (trade-in) value, or you can fix it and trade it for full (trade-in) value. Note trade-in value is less than the full sticker price shown when scanning and purchasing new ships.

If you happen to get lucky (like I did), you might even find a 48-8 hauler that, once fixed up, could be traded for a better class or more desirably shaped one, and you have a sizable down payment to offer in exchange already built in. For free! (plus the aforementioned item, resource, and time costs)

[edit ... oh, right ... answer the questions]

If you have more starships than you can fly at one time (i.e., >1), all you need to do to summon any of the others is hit the 'x' key (by default) to bring up the menu, then navigate the menu to the summon ships sub-menu, then select the ship you want and point it to land to a nearby location.

You do not need to store extra ships on a landing pad. In fact if you try and then log out, only your current starship will load in with you next time you log in. But lucky for you, it will be on your landing pad thus saving you launch fuel when you take it to fly off somewhere interesting. :)

This wiki entry should give you an idea of the types of ships available in NMS:
https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Starship

I would suggest that you wait a little and save up before spending all your money on a ship. If you are pressed for storage space, remember that you can expand your exosuit's storage to 48 slots normal and cargo, for a total of 96 slots. (The cargo slots hold twice as much raw materials.) To unlock them, visit each space station's vendor, and also use your signal booster to locate Drop Pods.

You can park your ships anywhere and summon them again (on any planet) via the X key. It'll bring up the quick menu, where you can pick whichever ship you want to summon. And when you get your freighter, you will be able to see all the ships you have (up to 6 max) in its hangar bay.

About the landing pads: There is an advantage to parking your ship on a landing pad (or anywhere there are landing "circles") - free takeoffs. You will not be charged for Launch fuel if you use them.

@Dichinit: It's not nice to keep editing your message to include information that someone else mentions below yours, making his message look redundant.

Something to keep in mind when adding a crashed ship to your collection: True that you can fix it up at your leisure, but it cannot be summoned until flight ready. I.e., fix the launch thruster and pulse engine, and fuel up before you leave the crash site.

This is however not necessary once you own the ship and already have a freighter. It will spawn in the hanger still crackling and sparking, though you may have to reload or move the freighter for this to happen.

Acquired my 2nd and 3rd ship in survival this way, before I had a freighter.

You say you have added more landing pads. Unfortunately, there will be no pad that is only reserved for your ships, you will find that NPCs will always fly around and land on your pads, adding a lot of noise around your base. There is no way to avoid this.

You swap your ships by calling them (summoning them) with the Quickmenu. This is only possible if the launch thrusters and the pulse drive of the ships have been repaired and your current ship has enough fuel loaded.
The device which is placed on landing pads allows you only to place your current ship there, not your other ships.

Some players find it a nuisance that they cannot get rid of their ships anymore (I don't understand this attitude, but so be it...). If you are one of them, then chose carefully the ships you add to your collection, you can have up to 6 ships and cannot get rid of them anymore, except exchanging them for other ones.

ahh, so if i find an out of the way crashed ship on some planet, i can fix it, fly away with it, and then say go back to my home base, land, and then summon my old ship to me?

I I'm not in desperate need of more storage, i added 7 of the cargo upgrades and picked up 4 drop pod data's to add more, and have all 10 huge containers that for some reason only hold 5 items lol

Maybe i'll just explore a bit in new systems.. but as far as ships go this one was the first one priced that i could afford, if it had a bit better stats i think i would grab it, but really its just more storage than the one i already have. It does look neat though.

Looks are important and lend to a sense of satisfaction. But remember, there are always more ships out there that look a lot cooler (and are a lot more expensive) than the one you have. It gives you something to look forward to. :)

is 3.5m a good deal for a 24 slot sclass C ship?
Ditchinit Apr 25, 2019 @ 6:34pm
Ship prices are fixed for each combination of slots+class+type. So a 24 slot class C fighter will cost the same as any other 24 slot class C fighter ... regardless of looks.

Not sure if it was changed, but NPC's used to only use 1 specific landing pad so you werent able to build your own spaceports.

When your just starting out remember to use your analysis visor to locate crashed satelites etc, getting to 3-5 mil for a halfway decent ship doesnt take long now.
