What is helpful are the upgrades you can get at the station. They will shorten the time it takes to mine and use less fuel to mine.
The tough part in the early game is you know you want something better so how many nanites are you willing to trade away on a tool you may exchange sooner than later. From an economics viewpoint it makes sense to focus on suit upgrades early on. That said, if you get a BP for the tool, I would probably install it.
You will get freebee tool offers and they can be great early game. Once you get an A class tool, it is highly unlikely you will ever see a freebee offer that is better than what you have.
As far as the various weapons you can install, like the boltcaster, it is a preference. I always end up going with the primary plasma tool. It just bugs me to run out of ammo...and pretty much any weapon you fully upgrade will take out anything you might run into.
I usually keep the boltcaster since you can use it to break down secured doors until you get the grenade launcher. It is not ideal but have made it work. Upgrading your suit can help you survive the pounding while you wait.
I do. Tho much prefer the Plasma Launcher.
PL, if one doesn't miss (big IF), kills two with one shot and is much more amusing ...
EDIT: I use the geoCannon for the walkers and to kill myself when careless ...
Short answer -
Experimental does. Attributes were nerfed with NEXT, but I have legacy tools in different saves S class
Experimental - Mining 80% +/- 4% Damage 44% +/- 4%, Scanner 100%
Alien - Mining 40% +/- 4%, Damage 89% +/- 4%, Scanner 55% +/- 4%
Rifles < Pistols
True. If it needs to be done or one has the foresight. I tend to get into 'trouble' up-close and personal. The long-range is handy for confusing Sentinels and making them run around the landscape by firing at far-away things.
are the same as the identical tool currently in game with 24-29-100.
I had idly wondered whether the nerf was to the displayed stats, or to the functional ones?
i'm currently actively playing both saves, and the difference between to two S classes seems to be negligible, and you have answered my idle curiousity about the nature of the nerfs
so i assume my weapon is probably the same as the new one but displaying outdated stats
