FYI, what you need is Antimatter an a fuel casing to create fuel. If you need to travel outside the system, you should have the Antimatter BP already. It is best to follow the story and read the instructions with some care. Not being a jerk, just your question makes one believe you are not really paying attention.
Your ship should have a hyper drive installed- just empty. If not, you are truly screwed.
The starter ship doesn't have a hyperdrive. Neither do crashed or purchasable ships until after the player gets the hyperdrive blueprint (maybe after installing it - it's been a while). After that, everything has one.
Just follow the story. Make sure "Awakenings" is selected in your quest log and you'll get a waypoint showing where you need to go. You'll get the blueprint from a crashed freighter after a couple of easy tasks. If you open up those green crates you find laying around on the planets' surface, you can save yourself a few units by not having to buy the Microprocessors that you need to construct it. Your starter ship will be the only one where you can have your hyperdrive in a tech slot and putting it there doesn't tie up a cargo slot.
Fuel is a different problem. You'll get some anitmatter and the blueprint for the housing at the next waypoint (an Abandoned Building if memory serves). Once you have the housing and antimatter in your inventory you can craft a Warp Cell, which will fuel your ship for one warp. The next waypoint is in the next system and you'll get the anitmatter blueprint and another warp cell at that location. After that you'll have all the blueprints you need to make your own fuel.
Since it sounds like you're a new player, I'd really recommend following the story quests (base building and all). You'll need to do some of the side quests and missions because you'll need units, nanites, and standing with the various groups later, but don't stray too far from the story quests on your first play through. Good luck and have fun.
Youre answer was completely wrong so idk whos the one no paying attention, Hyper drives are not installed in ships their found through the awakening quest... also antimatter is found through the quest aswell nothing is "already installed"
but thanks to everyone who helped!
Are you 100% on that? I've always thought it was a possibility but no one could confirm. If so you could hypothetically purchase a S class explorer or exotic. And place the hyperdrive in a position
where two S class modules could touch it creating optimum synergy. Lots of hoops to jump through to make that happen legit in the early game I know. So your saying there's a chance.
No, I know some will decry my choice. Favoring cargo space and improved launch thruster efficiency. I say you have other ships, storage, exocraft, and a freighter to pack all you stuff in. I say at some point you don't care about launch thruster efficiency. Use more landing pads you miser! No, I must fly in style! I must fly an exotic! And that exotic must fly the farthest! I have a new dream.

This one only warps 2857.6LY
That's ONLY for your starter ship where no Hyperdrive is installed
I don't use that tool, but with all it's able to do, I guess moving your hyperdrive into tech slots may be doable this way...
At least I hope for your dream
I'm not taking that as gospel ( no offence marstinson ) but I'm going to check it out.
I love your choice of not going the easy way.
Respect Sir
I hope you'll get what you want ;-)
Also the wiki has the most desirable hyperdrive layout expressed in a 2x2 cube. Three S Class modules and the main technology in the inventory section. I've always found it suspicious as there's no notes about how it's done. This might be how.
I've done lots of research on synergy as it seems to change with different patches. Having some visually show it when there is none and others having hidden bonuses or incorrect values effected in the case of some weapons. Hyperdrive is very simple to measure visually.
