Ship off-planet and teleport offline
I started playing NMS a week ago, and am currently in the middle of the quest for antimatter. After jumping to the next star system, hiring a scientist for my base, and following a signal to a nearby planet where I got the blueprints for antimatter, I set out to farm the resources I needed.

Having ventured out several hundred units away from my ship, I decided to call it to me instead of hoofing it all the way back. I’m fairly certain I had recharged its launch thrusters before I left. While waiting for it to arrive I mined a few more resources, but when I returned to the point from which I called it, my ship still wasn’t there. So I tried calling it again. Nothing. Then I looked around to where the ship should have been to check how far it was … and to my chagrin the display showed “Off Planet”! I’ve no idea how or why the ship would have left the planet instead of coming to me, or at least staying on the planet where I left it.

Searching the forums I found another post from someone in a similar situation, where the advice was to build a new base, teleport back to the space station, and then teleport to my old base from there. So I hoofed it to a suitable habitable spot (near an observatory), put down a base computer, and gathered the resources I needed to build a teleport module. Once I had that built I tried using it, but was given the message: “Teleport Offline // Temporary Atlas Network Glitch Detected” … “Traveller: Follow the Crimson Eye”.

So I have no ship, and no means of teleportation. Am I completely stranded, or is there some other way I can get my ship back? Elsewhere in the forums I saw suggestions to restore the game to a previous save point, but I don’t think I have that option — the game was saved when I claimed my new base on this planet, after I had already lost my ship. And there is a trading post not too far off, but buying a new ship would cost several million credits, and so far I’ve only managed to earn half a million credits with the aid of my ship.

Find a trade station and buy a ship? Or find a broke one and fix it. Never heard of this scenario. Not sure how it could even happen. If you have other ships, you can just call one of the others.

You could build a teleporter and go to station or your base (if you have one), that way. Typically when you show up at station, your ship will be there waiting for you.

Edit: probably your best bet is to build a mini base with a teleporter. Go to station and be reunited with your ship.

Try using a landing pad console or fuel pylon to call your ship to you. You'll need 1 "navigation data" to activate the panel or pylon, but those are easy to find. I can't guarantee this will work, but I think there's a good chance it will.

Thanks for the tip; I do recall seeing consoles like this around, but I had no idea it meant my starship. But in my travels so far I’ve only found one navigation data, and already spent it. Any tips on how to find more of them, or do I just need to keep searching abandoned containers and hope I get lucky again?

Can you reload an autosave? That usually only happens when you enter or exit your ship.

Edit: Also if you don't want to lose all this game time you can find navigation data all over the place. You can buy it and find it for free at the small settlements. To find them look for the blue cubes, Round holograghic plates or the orange 3d rombus thingie. You can also find those in shelters but since minor settlements also come with a landing pad that seems the better bet. Lastly if the planet you are on has "ancient data structures" those are almost always good for nav data. Use your analasis visor to see if you can spot any.

Yep, what gilesfrzr said. Look for the little grey/black discs and orange/blue cubes. You'll find them in planetary building of all kinds, usually sitting on tables, desks and countertops.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Well? What happened? Don't keep us in suspense.

Teleport won't work until the quest is complete.

I'd try gong to base and saving. Then get out of the game and re-enter. Hopefully the ship will spawn correctly.

I have the following statement on copy/paste cos ya know copy/paste: Leave launch fuel ON YOUR SHIP. Go into your inventory FOR YOUR SHIP, pick launch fuel UP and Place it on your thrusters -- this will charge the thrusters and then you can call your ship. :)

Sorry about that, but I’m afraid it’s unavoidable — I’m currently out of town, so I won’t be able to try everyone’s (much appreciated) suggestions until I return home. I will report the results when I do and be sure to mark the first tip that worked. ;)

Okay I’m back in the game now, and unfortunately not only is my ship still off-planet in the manual save slot, but it appears somehow the autosave was created 48 minutes after the manual save. Not only that, but the terrain has shifted slightly such that my base computer, teleporter, and the base I built on this new planet are all somehow buried a foot or two below the ground level. No idea how that could have happened, nor the fact that my base doesn’t exist in the manual save slot even though I’m certain I saved the game manually after building it. :steamsad: So it looks like I’ll be searching for navigation data …

Footnote: after re-loading both the manual and auto save slots, the equipment and structures I built are now back on ground level. Whatever glitched them before appears to have corrected itself.

By the way, I checked the inventory on my starship, and the launch thruster is at 25% energy. I can’t recharge it because it’s out of range. Out of sheer hope I tried summoning it again, and to my great relief this time it appeared it just a few seconds! :steamhappy::steamhappy: Now I can get back to some proper exploration. Thanks for the support, everybody!

Weirdness with loading terrain at your base site can happen sometimes. Usually it sorts itself out after a minute of standing around inside a base module, or reloading. Doors can disappear occasionally, as well. What you should NOT do is save your game when your base is in a messed up state, or else the loading error can become permanent.

If you would just leave launch fuel on your ship you can pick up the launch fuel and place it ON the thruster In the inventory, don't click on the thruster ---- pick up the launch fuel and move it to your thruster :)
