That would be nice, like the Midwest and parts of the Southwest of the US, too, where I grew up. Unfortunately, the closest I've seen is larger islands on water planets. That might be a good request for the mods discord channel; I'm pretty sure someone could create a flat worlds mod pretty easily. Be warned though, terrain mods can be weird for multiplayer or if you ever turn off that mod.

A flat planet is not something that you will find in vanilla game, which is a likely a design choice by the developer.

Have you ever wandered around on a planet and noticed how regardless where you go, usually there is a hill or mountain blocking your view? That's because the game tries to burden your computer with as least possible amount of objects as possible. The game doesn't have to show what is hidden behind a mountain and not visible to the player. Since planets are procedurally generated, one cannot simply use other tricks to simulate horizons and large, open areas.

That being said, there are planets that are more or less flat, with a lot of vegetation, but still with some hills. Nonetheless, you will not find any planet being as flat and flora-less as you desire.

Ruler-straight. Ocean with DEEP caves. My intention is to build a base that spans from the deepest cave to an above-ground landing pad and more. Red star, Activated Cadmium around, and no eerie music like a dead world. Address is: Bird, Bug, Sunset, Ship, Sunset, Moon, Voxel (pizza with 1 pepperoni), Tent, Dragonfly, Whale, Ship, Diplo. You are welcome to check it out, build a base or 12, and invite your friends. I'll try to pull up a screenshot.

Thanks for the tip! I might come build a base just to be near friendly people.

By the way, appearently there are base computers on planets which cause the terrain around it to be completely flat, 100%. I have encountered one myself. Freaked me out a bit, because I play singleplayer, but appearently they are spread out, though very rare. Just a base computer siting around.

I've seen that only twice. It's as if it was planned for exactly that (lol). Next one I find, I'm gonna build on it. Last one was 1500 units square, cliff up on one side, cliff down on the other, Trading Post 2800 units away, with an A-Class electromagnetic near the middle. If I wasn't so focused on ship hunting when I discovered it, I would have built there.

Edit: Screenshot added, existing base computer is out of the frame to the rear of the ship.
Thanks how can i see how many units

If you just want a flat place for base building I recently set up a base on a mesa. Many are tilted, but looking around I found one that was level and, for the most part, very flat. Plenty of room for the base I intend to build. Meanwhile, down below the mesa, the regular terrain undulates like they always do.

I found one of those base computers last night for the first time after >600 game hours during a mission for the Nexus in an uninhabited system. Freaked me out a little but claimed it and set up a starter base on it anyway.

The unclaimed base computers were added in NEXT so that pre-next bases could be restored. I used one to restore my legacy base, but after beyond I deconstructed it and deleted the base computer.

I usually find those from time to time while just walking and scanning for that pesky last animal.
But I also have a mod installed that scans for Habitable bases when using a Secure Site of Interest chart from the cartographer. Pretty useful to find bases when you're on the another side of the portal, claim the base, return to the portal and then go back to where is your new base using a teleporter. Instead of making innumerable warpjumps to reach the desired system.

The earth is flat, why can't the planets?

That's how you started a base prior to the new terminal. You had to find a currently placed base site. It was a round room with a terminal and teleport in it. They also had a flat build area.

The terminal you found was for those wanting to bring their older version bases into the new update. Not sure it still works though.
