As if you find all the glyphs and get a portal to function. Where it takes you, you cannot place a base computer and you cannot access the galaxy map in that area. So no way to easily get back to that system.
You can explore that particular system and leave a beacon, then have to return where you came from and set a marker and still do that 1000 - 3000 warps required to get there ... or until you lose interest.
Also with losing the data that you upload you'd have to say what's the point, certainly fun for a while.
Portals aint just a shortcut to the galactic center- thats the Nexus.
And to do so you usually have a small teleporter in front of a portal so you dont have to search for a new one every freaking time.
But now- those are bugged. To me and about everyone i know in NMS as well. As described above.
Yeah, same quest here..
I`ve just tried switching to the 3xperimental branch and was able to complete the quest.
I can confirm they seem to be fixed in that branch.
(Thanks Ǥɾᴧᴤʆᴧᵯᴧ !).
To change over, look at the properties for NMS, and enter `3xperimental` in the beta tabs code field, then restart steam & it should load up.
Ancient portals were always like that from the beginning, nothing new. They are only for visiting, not relocating. However, there used to be a trick you could do from an early update: there are occasionally "inhabitable outpost" sites which have a single claimable base computer in a flattened circle of land. Claim it and you can build a base in this new part of the galaxy. However, because you still can't connect a base transporter to it (because of the Portal Effect), you can only visit that base via the Ancient portal. If you want to connect the distant base to your base transporter network, you'll just have to jump out there the long old fashioned way. Once it is in-network, though, it is always there.
Once opened, a portal will stay active for quite awhile and it can be used repeatedly on the original activation charge. I just logged on from a pre update game and the portal I activated several months ago is still active.
