If you carefully go back through your discoveries menu you just might see something that looks familiar...
So you followed the three markers to the monoliths, then went to the portal but didn't go though it... The marker turned off because you reached the marker...
Well without an active marker it won't show in the teleport list as marked...
Even if you find the system it will be hard to find a portal
Not impossible but very hard to get back to it.
If you can remember anything about the system to help reduce the search like what faction, how many planets.. You could go back through your list or use the map to retrace your path. If you get lucky use a signal booster to find a monolith then use it to find the portal...
But still a lot of searching and getting lucky.
Needless to say, I am PISSSED. I've been playing this game since day one, and I've put up with the all the bugs and slowly refined features, etc, etc, etc. I've restarted the game fmore times that I can count in the last few years. I'm a very patient person. But this BS has me PISSSED OFF. At this stage of development, this kind of crap shouldn't be happening. I even filed a bug with Hello Games. No reply. If I had a physical copy of the game (I'm on Steam), I'd probably incinerate it. That's how sick of this game's BS I am.
I copied the glyph ID of the world and was earning glyphs as I made my way toward the center of the galaxy with the plan to warp to the portal from the other side and hope that fixed it. However, instead, I just jumped through the galaxy center and when I got to the new galaxy, my quest was reset at the point just before I got the waypoint for the portal leylines (finding the distress signal). So this is another way to fix the issue, just jump to another galaxy. Though, I would also advise bringing along a lot of wiring harnesses for all the repairs you will need to do, but it's better than starting back at finding Artemis or never completing the quest at all.
Regarding all those repairs, it is only tech in your current ship and active multitool, along with any tech that is not in your exosuit supercharge slots that breaks. You can store tech and this does not break, and you can have a second sacrificial ship/multi-tool just for jumping through the galaxy centre. Once in the new galaxy you can swap to a different multi-tool, call an unbroken ship and re-install the stored tech from you exosuit. If you have a freighter you can then fly to it and your broken ship - the one you went to the galaxy centre in will be in the hanger.
