In order to reset an Awakenings quest you would need to travel through a black hole, and reset the mission in the log. To be able to do that, go visit the Space Anomaly, talk with Nada and ask him for a pointer to a black hole. Another problem is: at that stage you need to have full warp and teleporter unlock to be able to return or you would need to reset all quests once on the other side of the black hole.
There is no other solution to unstuck you in-game, the alternative: you would need to use the NMS Save Editor to reset the mission.
Thank you
I just realize: you don't need to follow Atlas Path, just visit Space Anomaly and talk to Nada.
Machinery cannot get damaged AFAIK, so that would not be a problem unless the machinery is placed so badly that it cannot be excavated or such, I had this one already, also some buildings may be incastrated in the rock making missions impossible. If you were clever to save manually at every planet location you visit you simply reload your save... I never had problems whatsoever, ofc it's some work to save every time, but as you see: it's necessary...
Next time make manual saves at each flag...

The mission to 'find a signal' on a damaged machinery which OP is speaking about is one of the last missions of Awakenings (before 'The Space Anomaly' and before the start of 'Alone Admist The Stars').
Now, if OP is meaning something else then he hasn't made himself clear about, and I'm not the culprit...I can only give solutions based on his current text.
And "Right at the start"...well, admitted, I see it only now hidden in OPs text...(for such posts I spend only 15 seconds reading them), there is no problem to interact with machinery, players must learn to activate missions correctly, that's all to it, and it's in the game guide also I think. Maybe I should have said that, but it's so obvious that I left it out. Also at that stage OP could easily restart game instead of posting...
