Navigation Data - More tedious now?
I remember being able to use up your navigation data on a signal booster. Just plop it down, throw in your data, and bam. Now, the process is

- Find navigational data
- Go to cartographer at a trading post
- Wait for unskippable introductory text
- Wait for unskippable random dialogue
- Give him the data....ONE AT A TIME....
- Gain a planetary chart data item that takes up just as much room as Navigational Data
- Rinse and repeat the entire process because you probably have 30 of these

Was this really necessary? If this was some kind of new game mechanic involving cartography, fine, but it isn't. All this new process seems to do is to make the entire process take longer. The new Planetary Chart item doesn't even stack any higher than Navigational Data, and it functions (nearly) the same way too, so the entire process seems to exist only to waste your time.

Granted, it is nice to have something new to spend Nanites on, which is another function the NPC serves, but unless the game has made Navigation Data more rare (I haven't played long enough to find out) I don't think it's a feature that many players are going to use if they can just do it for free.

If you could simply just give him all your data at once, it wouldn't be so bad.

Kind of have to agree on this one. Cartographer and planetary charts sound cool and all, but it's essentially a really inconvenient signal booster.

The only other thing I can think of is that handing in one Navigational data has a chance to give you more than one Planetary data, as I have seen the pop up say I just gained two. So if it does indeed replace all your Nav Data with Plan data, it could possibly take up more room than you have in your inventory if you were able to do it all at once.

But I'm not sure if that's because it indeed gave me two, or because I'm repeating the process so fast I'm not giving the pop up enough time to fade out and it's just accumulating.

I'm currently out of Nav data so I'll have to check for it again, but still. If they wanted us a chance to get multiple data, then just give us multiple data when we loot Nav Data, and just have us use the Nav Data.

Yup, agreed. I hope they add skippable text and trade in all/some nav data at once.

The whole map thing seems stupid. I actually just search on planet now. It is just as easy and reliable...if you could specify you want manufacturing centers the map thing might be ok.

It usually gave me manufacturing centers but I haven't done a lot of tests since I had almost all the blueprints already

It can actually take up more room. Planetary charts for distress signals don't stack with planetary data for structures...

I've tested this a little, a system only gives a specific location, for example, my home system only gives me habitable locations. When I go to my other system, that one only gives me secured locations. Then there is another system that gives me artifact locations.

Could it be tied to a race ?

Not sure why you're doing that but all I have to do is click on the navigational data and thats it I don't have to go to a trading post and don't get a random dialogue

Yes, they're actually more common now more than ever. Apparently discovering new nav/save points gives you one now.

You're right, the planetary charts are actually under different categories now, so in essence now I can KINDA see why the system is the way it is.

But....5 as the max stack isn't enough, not if the game is going to give us these items in droves.

Are you sure your game isn't modded? Cause navigational data never worked like that....and it still doesn't.

Clicking on it in your inventory just drags it. The option to use them on signal boosters is gone. AFAIK in Beyond this is the only way to use them.

I'm not completely opposed to it, but it would be nice if they had different icons so you can tell them apart. My modding skills aren't up to that task just yet though
