To use a keyboard and mouse in VR takes special support from games. Very few games on the market support that playstyle.
The problem is that that kind of support is mostly aimed at older gamers who have never played on a console/controller in their lives (Like me) so it makes it a small market which in turn makes it costly.
This is very very very incorrect.
To answer the actual OP's question. To use the KB and mouse, pick it up. Its enabled by default. It wont work until you press a key on the KB. At that point both the KB and mouse operate as normal.
For example - running around using my rift hand controllers on a planet. Jump in space ship. Pick up kb, pless space, then just take off and fly like normal. Upon landing, pick up hand conrtollers and play. There is literally nothing else to do. I figured this out after mesing with my xbox controller for 4 hours, which does not work atm in VR. I accidently pressed a key on the kb and everything came to life.
Keyboard works for back forward and strafe. but no way can look around in NMS.
btw, this thread is about how not why...
I wish I could just play it with K+M while in VR, it feels so much better than with the badly implemented VR controls. Also controller support for flying would be great.
also VR visuals weren't as good. maybe this has changed in recent years...
Came across this thread as a result of google search. Had to login just to tell you how much stupid your comment is.
Goodbye. Hope those few year gave you a chance to learn how VR works.
Hi, what works and what doesn't in VR has changed a lot over many updates. I'm afraid it's a little more broken now than before.
K+M used to work at some point, but it doesn't appear to work anymore right now, just like you discribe.
Controller (Gamepad) works ... until you go into the menu, the cursor doesn't seem to move then, so doen't really work neither actually.
For now the only option in VR seems to be the motion controllers. There are more options for flight (twist) and that helps but the main struggle there in my opinion is navigating the space map...
