Narrator has a pleasing voice and accent.
I remember using portals a year ago when I last played this game in the same save file. I have all 16 glyphs. I'm beginning to think there's a glitch and some of my quests didn't save or something.
Does anybody else have any ideas?
At the monolith you have to give it an artifact for the dominant race in the system, (gek relic, vykeen dagger, korvax casing) and it will give you the portal location.
I don't remember the specific artifacts, but it's the most valuable one for each race.
Edit: guess I should have looked at that video before posting. lol
First, I just remembered, your Guide or Catalog should tell you how to do it. Just read the various articles in it.
Second, the Wiki should tell you what sort of planet Portals are on. Look up Portals, look up Ruins, look up Monoliths, look up Ancient Skeletons, any of those should sooner or later get you to the TYPE OF PLANET you need. Then you just need that to show up listed on the Scan of the Planet, and boom that's the planet you should try.

Here's my original attempt to help:
Any planet that has Ruins or Bones should end up giving you a location that has a Portal. Basically anything with Buried Ancient Artifacts, but they are probably called something slightly different, and I don't know the exact term at the moment.
Often that same planet will have a lot of Knowledge Stones, but that isn't a guarantee.
If it has a Monolith, that's likely a good planet. Just think anything buried in the ground, anything archaeological.
The main tutorial used to have a step in it where you find a Portal. So it probably still does. But the point is just find that sort of planet.
UPDATE:
Add Ancient Artifact or Monolith to the search words. The Monolith if the puzzle is solved with right gift, supposedly, will point you to a Portal.
EDIT; seems now navi data should be trade for a "map" one the space station
Right, Navigation Data is now used to by Charts. This way you don't have to know what a Distress Signal is in the dialog choice, and it won't rotate randomly between the 3-4 possible buildings that brings up. Instead you buy a chart, and I'm guessing that maps out the building in that region.
Something like that is the idea. In addition, when you use a Region Beacon to Save, you get something to sell to the Chart Sellers, maybe it was Nav Data.
So, in a way, it makes sense, if it works right. It was a bit arcane before. You have to be far enough away, pick the right but strange dialog, know your buildings, move then do it all over again. Sort of ridiculous really before.
Anyway, that's my interpretation of what it is now. But I have not gone to the Chart Sellers yet, and I don't know their exact name either. Just trying to help.
I've just bought 5 charts, it only gave me the red icons I guess they are buildings not ancient artifacts(sorry I just bought the game not sure if these were tight words). Only got red ones no purple.
But I am doing a mission which leads me to one portal~
But per others who posted later, there is a portal on every planet.

Yeah, the Charts seem to just point out buildings. So sooner or later you get the building you need.
You can, of course, just try flying around or do treks on-foot. You will eventually see something on your compass if you have the Analytical Visor. You don't HAVE TO use charts, just can help a lot if you get the right one for a portal or Monolith (which used to point you to the Portal if you solve the dialog and puzzle).
Anyway, sounds like you have the Chart system down. You guys are well ahead of me. I have to stop posting so much. Back to game.
1. I bought a chart from the cartographer guy in the system's space station.
2. It led me to an ancient monolith (...or alien ruins? I forgot what it was called.)
3. I did a word puzzle, Googled the answer, and increased my Vy'keen reputation.
4. I then asked the monolith for the location of a portal in exchange for a Vy'keen dagger.
5. It marked a portal on the same planet. I put a save beacon there to find it again.
So, you don't need to use the stupid signal booster any more.
