i wish the next update would be something like a sharded universe, or multi-verse similar to mmo but for nms... i'll play very much for this one
? what?

Lol..a hundred players doing what?
Flying to planets and scanning creatures and digging up bones? MP sucks in this game, I'm sorry. I can't figure out why people want so many dev resources to be spent on it. There are so many other games that provide actual things to do in MP content in relation to NMS.
To each their own, I suppose.

i can go for a hike on my own
but i prefer to go on a hike with my friends. sure, im going to the same place, and doing the same thing id be doing solo, and their isnt a reason for my friends to be there save for bear sacrificing should we be attacked by one, but i definitely enjoy the hike more with them by my side.

so yes. i will fly to planets, and scan thing with my friends, and we will build bases with each other and share resources..... its like asking why Minecraft has MP when its perfectly fine singleplayer. SOme of have friends in the matrix and we find socializing reduces our homicidal tendencies.

Destiny you don't really see more than 5-10 at a time even on Tower so what you're saying is a lie.

the creator of NMS sean murray is the one who compared it to destiny in his interview about the update, so you'll see a lot of destiny comparisons. he mentioned it in reference to the fireteam and tower setup of destinies MP. We have the Nexus (tower) and squads (fireteams)

OP's comparison was in line with seans, just terribly phrased, let me translate

"originally they had a limit of 4, but now their looking at Destiny and trying to go that route (as in the number of players and how we group up), but NO, not good enough, i want a FULL MMO"

thats why he said "NO it aint a good idea to make it like destiny, make it awesome MMO, 100 - 200 player." OP does not want the game like destiny. and was not comparing it to destiny. he just can't spell or even convey these thing sin actual english.

It's 32 players per solar system, not per universe. Considering that there are quintillions of systems, you could have quintillions of players per universe. Realistically, in how many situations are you going to need to see more than 31 other players at once?

No Man's Sky is not an MMO. It will never be an MMO. It may have the elements of an MMO, but if you go in expecting an MMO, you will leave disappointed.

32 is enought, it is not mmo.

We will have to wait and see. It has been 16 in a group with 4 you can see as avatars. Now, it appears it will be 32 you can see...and he said something about seeing others as orbs. It will be an improvement no matter how you slice it.

i dont think people understand that each "solar system" is just a game level that doesn't actually connect to anything else and that warp is just a loading screen letting the game pull in new assets. or that the freighter is just an exterior and the Interior doesnt actually exist in the univers, its just another side loaded set and that 32 is just the number of player youll see in a lobby that your connected to via p2p and it'll prioritise your friends. its really not that complicated.

orbs has been what the ambient multiplayer is. I go to the hub and play on the same sector with friends so i guess i understand it better than people who just sort fly around solo do. If you dont actively join someone elses game then if you go to a system with other players in it they will appear as a floating ball of light, its just a simple GPS dot provided by the server saying "yo someone else here) they cant affect you, you cant affect them. if you on them its like "oh hey, you two randomly met, wanna mark this place to honor the occassion"

if i understand sean right then the walls are coming down, and ambient MP will actually be full on running into the actual player and seeing them do stuff. not just a ball.

Wrong. They said only that they're not considering this game as an MMO. Because typical MMO has microtransactions, sometimes pay-2-win items, paid expansions, some still require monthly sub.

But multiplayer describtion so far sounds like instanced MMO, just like Destiny 2. Just completely free of charge beside main game.

Seeing as every system is it's individually loaded section, that's 32 people per system which is plenty.
Destiny doesn't let you alter your environment, nor any of the big MMOs, which make a HUGE difference on the amount of processing power needed. Technology is not magic, you can't just make anything happen.
This complaint is one made by someone with absolutely no clue how anything works and thinks you can just magically make anything happen.
He probably wonders why he can't play NMS on his cell phone as well.

Destiny is not an MMO, its a Single player game with online COOP. something like NMS has too many moving parts and edits for the servers to ever maintain all the information. In an MMO the server handles everything and streams the data to your pc, hence why you wont see many MMOs with terrain editing, or building on large scale, or even true action combat. NMS is a single player game with ONLINE elements, the majority of the game is handled by your machine, it does everything from calculate your damage to saving edits you make in your own save file. Its why you have to "upload" your base for anyone else to see it. DO not expect anything MMO out of this game, It would require a massive code rewrite, and an incredibly powerful server for it to cross into MMOdom.
