New game or old save?
First of all, will old saves be compatibel with the update? This seems always to be an issue.

Other than that, I always somehow want to start over to see all new things from the beginning. But after the Next Update, I finally had the game I always wanted. I built a huge, very nice base, got a freighter, lots of ships (until that I always played casually a few hours with not really noticable progress). So on the other hand, I feel bad giving that all up again for a new save.

What are you guys gonna do?

Personal pref. I'm gonna use my old save, I can always start a new one later if I want to. Save should be compatible.

NMS Legacy saves seem to always require a few weeks/months of patches to get things working that broke along the way. They usually are not gamebreaking, but often frustrating.

I'l most likely start a new save with beyond. Had some issues with a questline and an old save when NEXT was released, mainly the farming line all i could grow was the first plant, even though i had finished the entire thing from harvesting planetary sources as the blueprints stopped dropping as rewards to grow them.Save editor fixed it but it was a chore to do and i didn't really want to use the editor in the first place. So yeah i think i'l abandon my late game save for a new one.

From the interview just out it sounds like it might be better to start a new game....

Wow same here. Thanks for the articel. Im just not sure yet, whether to get VR. If I get that, then a new start is of course absolutelty necessary

The only thing I have seen is, depending the save and the update involved, it can make the game have to do some weird thing with items in the game that have changed. For example, last time they did a big base building update it made a bunch of things obsolete. So in order to rectify this, it would break down those now obsolete things and thrown the crafting materials in storage. It's been a while since this was the thing so I may have some of the details wrong. But I remember just starting a new game along the way. I'll probably do that again this time.

I haven't seen anything in the released information that suggests that existing saves will go the way of the dodo. I think the last time that happened was when NEXT dropped, but that was because there was a change to the way the universe was generated. My plan is to keep playing my existing game, though I'll probably start a new one just to see if there were any changes introduced in the earlier missions.

According to the people testing the update, old save games works just fine.

I hope it's not going to require a restart because I've been using the same save since launch.

I'll begin anew. Been meaning to since Beyond was announced. Got to Eissentam in my game and took a break to play other games until the release, going to start fresh with Beyond.

Just found this thread looking for some tips on what you lose or keep when starting new. My current save I have completed the game as in been through the galactic center, have all blueprints, decent ships, all languages etc... My base used everything that was availability before the update as I added electricity, 3 of my large storage won't come online/powered regardless, the teleporter is invisible to place, friends that join my session go invisible, my ships disappear showing only the guns and feet... and it has crashed a few times when talking to aliens or getting out of ship.

Also, it seems the age old issue of land mass you have removed still appears for other players, which makes removing ground to build a base, or even having the ability to manipulate the landscape in a multiplayer game pretty pointless.

I do like the new additional items, the anomaly and the multiplayer meeting place, even though it took 3 restarts to get a landing spot without floating round the anomaly...

But, after playing the game almost a year ago to the day, pretty disappointing. I'm going to restart and experience it fresh, plus as most of you here, I want my starter ship again as the same old same old ships, even the exotics are pretty boring.

When I decided to lead the STEAM game guide, I forced myself to start everything again by deleting the old save. That was after Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises and NEXT. Triplet (NEXT, The Abyss, Visions) make me sick with scale of game mechanic changes and the direction in which the studio began to go. This meant that I completely abandoned the idea of continuing this guide. That's why I play now on old save (this from NEXT). I thought Beyond would bring something that would allow me to motivate myself to continue working on the guide, but I was severely disappointed. This extension is even worse than NEXT. It introduces even greater simplifications and reduces the next batch of old content and previously tested OPERATING game mechanics.
On the one hand, I am terribly disgusted with what we have been given today, on the other, I have the hope that with No Man's Sky HG will be able to do what it was supposed to be, i.e. a giant sandbox that provides joy of exploration and joy of creation. There is little joy in me. Sadness and regret - huge deposits.

I hear what you are saying kibishii, I was a huge advocate for the game even through it's initial pain, i regret the couple of hundred hours I've put will be lost, but I am hoping - having not restarted so many times - that this experience will bring it all back for me and let me run without those initial errors I made. I do feel a little for new players though as I was one of the first to claim a planet close to the centre which hosted a portal and I was amazed to see how many messages had been left, I would imagine it's now slim pickings for people that want to leave their mark in the game.

I guess our initial interest in what the game aimed to offer won't fade, the multiplayer aspect is only now what we expected - and were sold to a certain degree - over a year ago.
