You can make a new base as long as you are far enough away from another base computer. If it won't let you "claim" move further away.

You can't move a base computer (without mods) but you can delete it.
Weaver Aug 3, 2019 @ 6:35am
you can make up to 50 bases before the old ones start getting deleted. You can make multiple on the same planet, however only the last one Uploaded on that planet will be visible to other players universally.

Unless you do it completely by accident, there are very few reasons to ever remove a base computer. Just build another one where you want it.

There may be a limit on how many you can have on one planet (vaguely remember it was like 4 in a system).

And since no one gave you the answer as to HOW to remove a base computer :

Walk to it, interact with it with E
And you can delete it from there. The middle mouse button is only for as long as you haven't claimed the area with the base computer.

Note that if you do so and still have structures, you may only recover HALF of materials used to build them.
This half will be placed in a new base when you build a Base Salvage Capsule
https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Base_Salvage_Capsule

Same mechanics if you swap freighters and you had a freighter base build in it, build the Base Salvage Capsule in the new freighter, and recover HALF of your materials in there.

So only up to you to decide if dismanteling is worth your time, effort and if ressources worth it. You can also decide to dismantle only partially for some specific harder to come by materials, or if you decide you simply don't care for the 1/2 of lost materials.

Personally I usually only partially dismantle things.

If you want to move it without damage to you Base, use SaveEditor, else SOL
You can make unlimited bases. ONLY ONE base will be visible per planet to other players landing independently on your planet. The last base uploaded by you, per planet, to the HG servers will be visible to other players.

Additionally (and this needs to be confirmed) only one base is visible across modes, so if you build a base in each mode on the same planet, the last base uploaded will be the one visible, in that mode. The other modes wil not show a base to landing ambient players. Though I believe in an invite only co-op multi-play, your friends will be able to see each of your bases and even help build them.

The Beyond update will likely improve this confusion and the above information may soon not apply.. Let's hope so.

Lastly if a player is using MODS or playing the experimental version of the game whilst you are using an non-modded, stable version of the game. Then strange thngs can occur and bases may sometimes be present and sometimes not. All player games ought to be equal when building collaboratively or attempting to view another player's base.

Old bases don't get deleted, but they will get bumped off the teleport list.

They do. There isn't magically infinite storage space for infinite bases from hello games, hence why after 50 they get kicked. It's just like there is a maximum number of total pieces you can use for all your bases combined before things start getting deleted. Which is currently 20,000 pieces total, which is significantly down from where it started originally, because again, they scaled back because they don't have limitless data storage.

Ummm, no. 16k is max. Which I have hit many times. Delete the uploaded bases from your save file (not the base computer) and your parts count gets reset to zero, but the bases remain. I have done this many times in multiple galaxies.

I can confirm this. I have just established my 55th base in my current game and only 50 show up on my teleport list (well 49 actually, + the base I am at). However I checked by flying to one of the missing bases that it was in fact still there. Once I got there it was re-added to my teleport list at the expense of another base.

This is a disappointing finding as I had intended to establish a base on every viable planet that I visited. I will now have to rethink my exploration strategy.

Correct - for PC, 16K - however PS4 gets 20k so Weaver and Gatun are both correct. Just wanted to clarify :)
Might all change with Beyond though :)

Thanks for the info, I don't know any details other than for PC.

You can still portal to your bases. The signal booster address will get you to the solar system. Plug the SB Hex address into nmsportals.github.io to get the portal code for the solar system.

If you use the Save Editor you can see all your bases as text files (and back them up). Each base text file has a galactic address for your base, you can convert that address to a portal address - This thread shows how: steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/1639788130271008803/#c1639788130272080026

Thanks Gatun, that's good to know. I haven't experimented much with portals yet (i.e. not at all) but when I do I'll take your advice.

Of course there is always a chance that Beyond will change things around anyway.

Wrong. If you do not dismantle the freighter base manually before you change freighters then you will lose everything in the current freighter base.

Building a Base Salvage Capsule in a freighter results in an empty capsule.

The only things to be transferred when you get a new freighter are the frigates.
