Don't buy C class upgrades... that's wasted nanites.
When you dismantle upgrade modules, you will not get it back as it is.
Don't waste too many nanites on upgrades on a C class multi-tool, you can't transfer them. So save all that, until you actually get a good multitool you'll keep for a while.
Then to install a module, press E while on your inventory on said module, and go into your multitool tab, and if I'm not mistaken, again E on the slot you want it to be (or is it a click ?)
Now for your stat things, I admit I never paied too much attention to it, I'm not a min-maxer guy, so I could not care less.
Thanks, the problem is the open slots are all greyed out and it won't let me install it anywhere.

You are trying to move the module in its "packaged" form, which can only be stored in an inventory slot.
To install it, press 'E' (on keyboard) while the cursor is over the module to "unpack" it, then move it to the multi-tool.
Indeed. It seemed the advice didn't take, the first time.
Where you should see a difference though is in the section below them, where the bar-length/values for DamagePotential, ScannereRange are shown.
Ok, good thread, as I did not fully realize this (not had the chance to do it yet, as probably want to get a better multi-tool but not impressed by those seen so far and their cost).
The fact that it's a 2 step process also make it usefull if you buy modules upgrade for ship or exosuit, and then you can also navigate between inventory or tech slots, and install it where you really want to.
No it's not right click.
This process bugged me from the start and it took me ages to find the correct procedure so I sympathize with other having problems.
After you have bought your upgrade module it will appear in your Exosuit itinerary. Place your cursor over the module and tap 'E'. The module will change its name and attach itself to your cursor. Move that to the desired location (in this case in Multi-Tool) then click and hold the left mouse button.
There is a crucial difference between 'tap' and 'hold' and that is what caught me out at first.
Don't fret. It's actually faster and you don't realize it. I can confirm that even with a Rifle Class that has 0% mining, it does impact the speed. In fact, I have a whole family of mining upgrades and they do affect mining despite that stat on the main Mulit-tool screen never changing. It seems to be a bug? I don't know. It just works lol
Just make sure that you group similar upgrades with their base tech. Synergy bonuses on high rank multi-tools make them god-like. If you need tips on Synergy, the NMS Reddit is a place for good information and pics of what ppl have done so you can get an idea of how to build a proper multi-tool.
Good luck, Traveller!
