Teleporter network offline....permanently?

I've traveled to a few different planets and warped to systems at least 3 times already and still can't use the teleporter. It still says "network offline" or something, same message it's always had since I built my first one. I've read several posts saying all you have to do is warp 3 times. Is there anything else you need to do or is my game bugged?

Surprisingly,i had only warped twice (out from my starting system, then back again),i built a terminus at my base, used it to teleport back to the second station!! and to top it all off, i'm playing in permadeath mode

Every play start I've done my first teleport was from a space station back to my base. Long before I ever built a teleport.

I sort of can't believe you stopped playing after your third system to come here and tell us your teleporter doesn't work. I've never bothered with it that early in game -- warp home.
