Just have to use Multi-tool vendors in other systems.
Could there be a way to make a vendor afraid of you either by faction rating, or some other means (firing at faction ships, etc.) ?
I'm too new to know. But I had not seen this mentioned before.
The Mission board life form on my start planet won't talk to me because of this.
This happens during the Awakenings mission; you are sent to the spacestation in search of a certain individual. You will have a location marker, but once you land on the station, that marker disappears, so you must ask around. Once you find the right alien and tell that individual "16 16 16 16 16", while he is in a trance, will tell you where to locate the hyperdrive blueprint. Any alien that you say "16' (that is not the one you needed to see) will no longer interact with you.
In normal play (after tutorial), it's sometimes possible to talk twice to an NPC to get different dialogues - if you are looking for 'Ask for Directions' which is what you want. Other NPCs have puzzles to solve that you must get right, others don't want to talk at all.
It's useless to hang around in the station while you are in the tutorial, only thing you can do is selling/buying stuff to the NPC ships or the terminals. Do the Awakenings missions and finish all of them first.
The '16' mission has nothing to do with the vendors who will never engage in talkings, other NPCs will also shut down the conversation until you find the right one :)
Ok, well that's a good heads-up anyway. I'm currently in the Awakenings Mission, so I'll just finish all that before worrying much about talking to NPCs.
During Awakenings there is a '16' mission, here go talk to NPCs in space station until you get one responding you. Go to NPCs, not to the vendors.
That won't work all the time, as i had one of the vendors that i needed to talk to for the 16 mission (fortunately it was the exocraft vendor, which i didn't need at the time, so it don't matter if he's afraid of me now or not)
Really? That's interesting, I note it, I never have seen them talking, only presenting the 2 selling dialogues.
One of the things I noticed is that after I bought a multi-tool i wasn't able to access the vendor anymore. So i'm looking through bug reports now. I mean its not a big deal that I lost the vendor, but I'm more just trying to figure out what caused it.
It used to be pretty easy to do that. I think only one or two "your standing has improved" on the planet and you were good to go again.
Edit: I think the above only applies if you are just starting out and have almost zero rep to begin with.
I think this only happens if you ask a vendor before the forth NPC that completes that step in the quest. I have played this through several times and only had it happen once but I talked to a vendor first with the mission active.
