Vendor is scared of me for some reason?
So, idk why, but in my playthrough one of the vendors (where you trade nanite clusters for BPs) is now suddenly afraid of me. I can trade with each of the vendors in the station except for the one that provides the multi-tool upgrades and it wasnt like this earlier. SO idk what to do.

I guess you asked that vendor about 16-16-16..... He's lost to you now.
Just have to use Multi-tool vendors in other systems.

that doesnt make any sense because i never even got an option to select 16 whatever. its a vendor, they do their own "welcome to my store" spiel in their language and then i have 3 options.

This sounds like something that is going to require a more definitive answer. I did not yet see any YouTube videos with this being even mentioned.

Could there be a way to make a vendor afraid of you either by faction rating, or some other means (firing at faction ships, etc.) ?

I'm too new to know. But I had not seen this mentioned before.
During the Alone amidst that stars story line you were given a quest to find out about the strange signal 16 and to ask life forms about it. Any life form that you asked (including vendors) are afraid of you and won't talk to you after that. Its not a bug its an intended consequence.

The Mission board life form on my start planet won't talk to me because of this.

This happens during the Awakenings mission; you are sent to the spacestation in search of a certain individual. You will have a location marker, but once you land on the station, that marker disappears, so you must ask around. Once you find the right alien and tell that individual "16 16 16 16 16", while he is in a trance, will tell you where to locate the hyperdrive blueprint. Any alien that you say "16' (that is not the one you needed to see) will no longer interact with you.

Never happened to me. The only time NPCs turn you off is when you are not ready yet because still in the tutorial where you can take no missions, no guild missions. The vendors will show their stuff, but you need a certain rank to buy certain items.
In normal play (after tutorial), it's sometimes possible to talk twice to an NPC to get different dialogues - if you are looking for 'Ask for Directions' which is what you want. Other NPCs have puzzles to solve that you must get right, others don't want to talk at all.

It's useless to hang around in the station while you are in the tutorial, only thing you can do is selling/buying stuff to the NPC ships or the terminals. Do the Awakenings missions and finish all of them first.

The '16' mission has nothing to do with the vendors who will never engage in talkings, other NPCs will also shut down the conversation until you find the right one :)

Ok, well that's a good heads-up anyway. I'm currently in the Awakenings Mission, so I'll just finish all that before worrying much about talking to NPCs.

During Awakenings there is a '16' mission, here go talk to NPCs in space station until you get one responding you. Go to NPCs, not to the vendors.

That won't work all the time, as i had one of the vendors that i needed to talk to for the 16 mission (fortunately it was the exocraft vendor, which i didn't need at the time, so it don't matter if he's afraid of me now or not)

Really? That's interesting, I note it, I never have seen them talking, only presenting the 2 selling dialogues.

One of the things I noticed is that after I bought a multi-tool i wasn't able to access the vendor anymore. So i'm looking through bug reports now. I mean its not a big deal that I lost the vendor, but I'm more just trying to figure out what caused it.

It may have changed, but back in the day you could kill your reputation at the station by doing bad things around the system (fight sentinals, attack freighters, etc.) They would not talk to you until you raise your rep with that species again.

It used to be pretty easy to do that. I think only one or two "your standing has improved" on the planet and you were good to go again.

Edit: I think the above only applies if you are just starting out and have almost zero rep to begin with.

I think this only happens if you ask a vendor before the forth NPC that completes that step in the quest. I have played this through several times and only had it happen once but I talked to a vendor first with the mission active.

That's right but it happens during that quest. If you interact with any/all of the vendors during that quest but before the 4th life form NONE of the vendors you interacted with will talk to you after that and none of the vendors count as one of the life forms needed to compete the quest. I've had it happen on more than one save slot.
