Took me a while to figure out. Zooming in and out is the key, not just panning in X/Y axes.
It takes some time to get familiar with the map. It can be difficult to stop on a specific system, but usually zooming in or out can help. If it is an already visited system, you can click on it in discoveries and use the custom waypoint feature in the map to get directions.
In my Achievements, I have between 70/80 warps, currently going for 100. All are free explore.
I do not often find systems that say they are too far but I have 3xS upgrades and I do sometimes find them.
My main interest is choosing un-discovered un-mapped systems and poking around there.
Coming out of warp and finding what I've discovered this time is my favorite part.
I'm sorry to keep this thread going after all the clear advice I've received, but I'm back, wearing my flame-proof pants, trying to find out details about Zoom-In, after a half hour of searching google and steam discussions on the subject. And Snapping. How can I get either a smooth mouse movement across systems in the map or keyboard controls that would move my cursor from one system to another without the mouse. In zoomed in view.
I am not seeking any general info on the map use, I do use the map and know most of the info regarding it. I just assumed there was not a free zoom in as I had never found it.
How do I zoom in (PC/mouse) deep into a section of the galaxy map in Free Look? Which controls do I use? The "F" key zooms into one single system, how do I do a zoom into a region, large or small? And can I get rid of "Snap"
Thank you again.
A / D pans (slides) the view quickly left and right, W / S zooms in and out. Your mouse moves the cursor and slightly rotates the galaxy on the x and y axes. There may be other keys (arrows?) than I'm not aware of that will rotate the galaxy faster.
It feels a lot more difficult than with XBox controller, but it's probably because I'm not used to keys/mouse at all, but the principle is the same.
Good luck!
Fine travelling, interloper.
(PC) Last night I found, after I tapped LMB on a dot, the POV zooms slowly in to that system for view of planets and rotation. (I had thought LMB was to enter warp, which it is, but with a firmer LMB push).
However, while still in zoomed-in POV, I found I can move my POV in any direction, the view remains zoomed in, so in this sense, a zoomed view is supported. There may be other zoomed-in-free-explore ways I don't know yet.
Daguas - perhaps mistakenly, I use the RMB click-and-move as Free Explore.
Thank all of you.
