Predator Helios 300 good enough?
I recently bought NMS, but it can't EVER run at 60 fps. The laptop (Acer Predator Helios 300) has a gtx 1060, an i7-7700hq, and 16 gb of RAM. No matter what setting I put the game on, lowest OR highest, the frame-rate always hovers around 40-50 FPS. My drivers are up to date and my connection is perfectly fine. Is the optimization that bad, or is my laptop not good enough?

its a laptop, will always be slower than a desktop.
40 to 50 is not that bad .

It's just strange that i can run something like GTA V at 60FPS easy but NMS can barely do half that. Especially since everything maxed out runs the exact same as the lowest settings.

NMS does a lot of things in the background, and it's voxel based. It's not like GTA.

the ps3 could run gta v. Don't give me the "herp they incresed the graphics", you can play in direct x 10 on the lowest settings. No man's sky is a current gen game built on some magic custom engine. GTA is not a good comparison these days lol.

i just bought rtx 2070, i had 1060 6gb too and on planets it jumped from 40 to 90fps on medium settings, with rtx 2070 i have 90 to something 100+ jumps with ultra settings. I guess gtx 1060 6gb is lil bit weak for this game but playable.

Understandable that GTA isn't a comparison anymore lol but still all other games I've downloaded all run at 60 fps on ultra. Apparently I'm not great at comparisons but I'll name a few anyway haha

On ultra: Assassins Creed Unity, The Forest, Elite Dangerous, Just Cause 3, and Dying LIght. I'm not trying to say that my PC is amazing and it should run everything, I'm just making sure it's my Computer that isn't powerful enough for NMS instead of something else I may be missing.

i run at 60fps on my asus laptop. its an older model with an i5 2.4ghz and gtx 1050
play with the settings and run razor cortex

I have a PC the same as the OP except I have an i5 8400 (!!) (and the gtx 1060/6 and 16gb RAM) and my game runs smooth with fine detail (textures at Ultra) at 60 all the time. GPU is set at 60 but often runs down around 40 - 50 at my base when i'm building stuff. In space and on planets I'm fine.

Yeah I turned the cap off but it seemed to stayed locked at 60, which was strange since other games let me turn off vsync if i want.

6GB of ram, thats why its slower. This games minimum spec is 8GB, which means your specs arent supported even if it does work.

I have 16gb of RAM, and 6gb of VRAM on my GPU.

ah okayokay. Then I don't know your problem lol. My current desktop is;

AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics (2GB but goes to 4 when needed)

16GB ddr4 ram

and I can play pretty much any game on high-ultra with 30-60 fps. (eg: Ark on ultra with 30+ish fps on a busy server)

I think it's down to drivers and whether games support them, I have a friend with a i9 and gtx 1080 and has to play ark on low because it doesnt support the newest nvidia drivers...

Use the '3xperimental' beta password through steam. Huge performance boost for me, anyway.

Only for AMD users atm, hopefully its even both ways on the full release.
