Deleting Rooms in Freighter has opposite effect
I am trying to delete all the rooms in the freighter but when i do so instead of a room being deleted one appears.

I cannot seem to get rid of the rooms/walls.

I am entering build mod and holding down CTRL like normal, i can delete the various objects in the room but not the walls, new rooms appear when i try to do so.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Freighters are a bit different when adding/deleting. Like anything else, make sure it is a red hologram first, and you can only delete open spaces. If it is a solid wall, you can only add unless there is something behind it.

You should be able to delete *everything* in the upper floor except the corridor leading to the bridge.
Another question is if you should do so, I think not...not worth the effort IMO, also because currently building large freighter compounds is broken because of items not matching, items creating holes to space etc.. The freighter building was a lot better in previous game versions even with less construction items at your disposal.

i figured it out. deleting fills the space and the way to do it is to add rooms everywhere if you want to open up a room bigger.

Thanks for the responses!

ah yes, your adding rooms to create space, not deleting occupied areas to make space. Opposite of building underground :)

Not that there's much you *can* do with a freighter base other than build frigate and storage rooms.

Its worth noting i suppose that you can build stuff right up to the captain in the bridge if you want to decorate the place, for w/e reason i got the impression originally your build area stopped near the bridge because you couldnt build rooms any further, thats not the case.

you can unlock the ground rooms on a freighter with the limit removal hack (it was a nice side effect). I usually put my bio spheres there. You can put in landing pads, summon your ships, and get traders again. You can put in a teleport to leave. You can put in the big refiner, trade terminal, etc.

Question on the teleporter. Can you teleport "to" your freighter? I'm thinking possibly not, but it'd still be nice to leave via a teleporter.

There's a couple mods/instructions i need to look up for PC, one being how to delete terrain data since apparently i've used 1/4 of it already just putting buildings on top of ground.

No. For PC there is a hack/workaround that lets you do so but i would not suggest it.

With the workaround, you can build and use a teleporter on the freighter. You can teleport from it, but I have never been able to teleport to it. Not a static location. Never had a problem with it, and tucked away in a cubby looks neat.

That makes sense, since afaik the portals arent actually linked, the teleport list is just generic space co-ordinates.

It's why after iirc Atlas rises update, teleporting to space stations in your teleport list often dropped you in space several hundred meters from the stations (at least you only had 4 addresses to overwrite).

Yeah i would bet that the moment you place the teleport it would work both ways but as soon as you move your ship you cannot teleport to the ship anymore.

I had an issue where I had created a floating/unattached rooms in build mode on a freighter. Because of the way that rooms work on a freighter, I was not able to highlight them to delete them and entering "free flight" build mode I still could not get to the floating rooms.

I did find a solution that may help others. To delete floating or unattached rooms:
Locate an exterior wall.
Add a bulkhead to the exterior wall.
The bulkhead with a very small balcony will be created.
You can now go out onto the balcony and enter build/edit mode and toggle the camera to enter "free flight" build mode.
You should now be able to "fly" around and delete any rooms that could not be accessed before.

On a side note. I was having a hard time adding rooms attached to stairs, or adding a room that would be accessed with a ladder. By using the above outlined method, you can fly around and add the rooms exactly where needed.

Hope this helps.

You're answering 5 year old posts that had an entirely different build system than the one we have now on freighters. There was no 'outside' back then even. ;)

Yes, you can.
I teleport to and from my freighter all the time. I don't use any mods.

lol, haha. I didn't notice it...
I presume teleporters worked differently back when this thread was alive...
