BSODs after Beyond update
Seemingly random during gameplay, though I can sometimes force it to occur by changing the graphics options and applying.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Core i7 7700K (stock), 8 GB RAM (XMP mode), GTX 1060 3 GB, 144Hz monitor (no G-Sync for Win7 though, sadface)

This did not occur prior to the Beyond update. Latest drivers installed, fresh install of No Man's Sky, etc. Temperatures and performance all nominal (unless all ultra graphics options are selected, then it becomes a chug-fest). Buttery-smooth on medium and high settings, then BSODS-à gogo!

Also maybe worth mentioning, upon the initial restart after a NMS-induced BSOD, my microphone (3.5mm front audio) stops working and will only work again after another restart or shutdown. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Some additional troubleshooting I have gone through, but BSODS persist:

Unplug all other peripherals (including mic/headset) save for KBM.
Clean install of the 2 previous NVIDIA drivers.
Disabling network interface card.
Disabling background software (including antivirus).
Disabling Steam overlay.

Grasping at straws here, NMS is the only game that BSODs my PC.

I have the same thing happening. Change and apply graphics settings, or alt-tab out, and the system with BSOD. Long as I dont do either of those things I have no issues. But that is crazy annoying as I only have a single monitor, and need to tinker with graphics settings to get where I want.

Only happens with NMS. I play Anthem on high with no issues at a constant 60 fps and it is un-optimized mess. FF14 runs on all ultra and 1440 at 60+ fps. The issue is limited to NMS only. And only POST Beyond update.

Win7 Ult64, FX6350, 12GB RAM, 1060 3GB, 4K LED TV running at 1920x1080.

Hmm, wonder if it's an issue with the GTX 1060 3 GB cards? Maybe the new update has trouble addressing 3 GB of video memory?
painfulmrbonez Aug 27, 2019 @ 9:05am
I thought about that as well as it is kind of a bastard card. Dont all the 1060's use 6GB now? Dont think they are even still making the 3GB 1060. Would need clarification on that though.
Could very well be related to how vulkan is managing the memory.

I doubt the 1060 3 GB cards are still being manufactured, though I still see plenty of "new" old stock cards. I also play FFXIV and no issues there. Hell, even the Star Citizen alpha plays fine on my PC... I realize they are completely different engines, but still...

Antivirus was causing tons of lock and BSOD issues. Many disabled it or stopped it from scanning the directories involved.
Could that be your issue?

I only use the microsoft security essentials that is packaged in with Windows. And never seen any alerts over games. But, admittedly, cant say for 100% that's not it. ...

I include antivirus and the like as "background software" just for clarification.

Just threaten the game with uninstalling, that always works.

What was the stopcode for the BSOD? Right after Beyond dropped I ran into a Critical Structure Corruption BSOD while playing NMS. It was triggered by one of two things:
1) An issue in a recent Win 10 release that corrupted some critical OS files.
2) Installing the most recent Geforce drivers without cleaning the old install.

There are a couple repairs you can try that will not harm your system and may improve overall stability.

1) Win 10 only: Open a command prompt and input this command:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Once it's done, run this command:
sfc /scannow
This pair of commands will repair the recent issue corrupting Win 10 system files and repair the local Win 10 backup image.

2) Use DDU[www.wagnardsoft.com] to completely purge your graphics drivers and then reinstall the most recent package.

I have BSOD's too but its mainly on ALT+ TABs into windows and very rarely when i press save and quit fast. If i press save then sit in option screen for 5 secs i does not happen.

i can't even get it to run post Beyond update. It opens to menu, I select my save game, it runs through the startup star scape ..... and then crashes to desktop.

I emailed support - they said "thanks for letting us know" but are not actually interested

BugcheckCode is 80. As stated in OP, I'm on Windows 7, here is one of the NMS-induced BSODs:

BSODs are caused by video driver or operating system errors, analyze the BSOD with: nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
giganova Aug 27, 2019 @ 11:34am
So yeah, as I assumed, seems like an issue addressing video memory...
