Bio fuel generator
Is there a way to shut it off when its not being used?

fix a switch to it

Seen a lot of people cutting every tree down in existence to run these things, while i would suggest never using them here is a better solution to your carbon woes.

You will need 1 medium refiner 50 carbon and 50 condensed carbon, from this you can refine unlimited amounts of carbon. carbon and condensed will refine into a carbon crystal, this crystal when put back into a refiner will give you back more carbon than you put in. So by doing this you will never run out of carbon again.

(this trick also works for sodium, cobalt, di-hydrogen, any metal copper-indium etc and chromatic metal, chlorine and salt and a few others)

No, bio fuel is agreed by pretty much everyone to be the worst generator. Use solar panels + batteries.

Appreciate the answers....Solar and batteries sound like a good way...The med refiner also sounds good for later.

Later you should extend your base (if necessary) and use the electromagnetic generator. You'll see how much of a step up it is from the solar panels.

When I used bio generator I used bateries too. So you don't loose the spare power. Bio generator is only good at start or for short duration power.

Or you can use the recipe:
1 condensed carbone + 1 oxygen => 6 condensed carbone.
with 3 oxygen harvesters, you get 750 oxygen per 12.5 minutes for 150 condensed carbone.
750 oxygen + 375 condensed carbone => 2250 condensed carbone in 11.25 minutes

a net profit of 1725 for about less than 15 minutes. You can fuel 5-6 biogenerator. But it is a full time job. You better switch to solar or electromagnetic generator.

Bio fuel gen is pointless. I ran it once, it stole all my carbon and ran for mere minutes... I built solar power straight away after that. Totally need to reduce requirements for it. It should run on like a 10th of what it needs. For a starter item it makes no sense, you can get solar very quickly.

I use the biofuel generator coupled with a teleporter for a minimal base on a planet with resources I might want to come back to later. Agreed for a main base that solar power and batteries are better.

I once had like 2k carbon in inventory, I thought I click it and then I can split the amount like with refinery, but no it instantly put ALL MY carbon in it. WTF I hate that thing

All the fuel burner don't let you choose the amount. One I had 256 condensed carbone. I put 250 in a rafinery to only have 6 on me. The generator take 10 condensed carbone. 6 coming from my inventory and 4 from the rafinery. At least I saved 246.

You can choose your own amount by separating your stacks inside your inventory before putting the ressources inside the generator/refinery. If I choose to use a biofuel one I always split my stack into my main one and into one that only consists of 20 units of carbon nad putting the large stack into something else. Interacting with the generator and only the small stack is chosen and I'm good to go for whichever small task I need said generator (usually powering a teleporter on a frontier outpost of mine).

It would be ok if you could split resources down and just feed it what you want to power it but when you have 1500 carbon and it takes it all.... Even on my basic places I find it more convenient to place a panel and battery down. My main bases I power using the magnetic field gen.

That stupid thing can take from multiple stacks at once. The stack you separate must be inaccessible. It even takes 4 from a rafinery. That is insane. But I suppose if the inventory is out of reach it may works.

1 carbone for 1 second. A ful generator runs 1 hour => 3600 carbone or 1200 condensed carbone. That is not cheap.
