Obtaining/Farming Large amounts of Dihydrogen
So far, I have tried three things:
1) Converting DIH back and forth in to and out of jelly. This works but is DRAMATICALLY limited by the extraordinarily slow production of DIH Jelly. (One minute per unit)
2) Mining it. This is slow. 'Deposits' of blue crystals on planets yielded what seem like very small amounts.
3) Poking traders and trade terminals. So far, I have managed to purchases precisely zero units of DIH or DIH Jelly doing this.

Can you tap a node of this with an auto-havester?
Does it spawn in larger deposits I just haven't found yet?
Am I too darn stupid to trade it properly?
I want to play the frigate mini game, darn it!

No.
No.
I don't know but doubt it. ;)

You can improve the time while using a refinery: Don't create Jelly there but create it inside your inventory. Yes, there it will cost 40 Dihydrogen instead of 30 if you use the refinery, but it will be instant. So your margin will be a little less, but faster which wins in the long run.

I'mma try this. Thanks for the quick response.

tritium in refiners

IMO Di-Hydrogen is about the most annoying resource to get. And once you are doing the max frigate missions a day, you need a lot of it. I think most of the following has been said above.

Usually I buy DH jelly from pilots in the SS. It's not expensive but you do need a lot of open inventory slots. Usually they sell about 140 but it's only stored in 10 per stack. You also need to stand in front of the refiner to load each 10 stack, it processes almost instantly. With a little more effort You can have an endless supply, craft it in your exosuit, for a cost of 40 then re-refine it back to DH for 50 craft-refine-craft-refine You gain 10 each cycle.

When I'm feeling lazy, I buy Tritium from the SS Pilots, refined 5:1. Much more costly, but a lot less labor.

Well, cut him some slack. I've been curious on faster ways to get Dihydrogen lately, but haven't had the gumption to ask. This was helpful to me... kinda. A couple of tips, but still no motherlode solution.

Always seem to have tons of it, I always zap any I see when running around, throw all the Jelly I get from boxes into the refiner, etc. I have seen it on traders but never bought any. A couple times when I needed some asap I just converted some tritium.

Like mentioned above, the fastest way is to buy it from NPC pilots at the space station. You may have to shop around in a few different systems to find decent qtys but once you find it, write down the system name and whenever you need it just visit that station via teleporter. I have a few stations I visit where pilots sell jelly 100 to 160 units at a time and tritium in stacks of 4000 to 5000. Buy it from 2 or 3 NPCs and you have enough to last a while.

Same here, when I'm on foot I never pass any crystals up and the +50% module makes a difference. I actually have twice as many stacks of that as I do tritium.

sometimes galactic trade terminals offer them,
so adding one of those to each base and the freighter/capitalship has a good chance that one of them offers a buying option for dihydrogen jelly
solving the problem that way

Deffo go with rich systems, pilots and terminals do offer them. If desparate, tritium is the way.
knighttemplar1960 Mar 23, 2021 @ 9:08am
The absolute fastest way is to warp around until you find a wealthy system that sells jellies at the space station and then either drop a base computer on a planet there (tip: find a trading post on one of the planets and drop your base computer inside it. You'll be able to teleport directly to the trade post. You can build a telporter, battery, and solar panel if you want to be able to teleport right back out.) or rename the system so that you will remember where you want to go to buy it.

Wealthy systems that have it usually have a lot of it. Its cheap and you can unrefine it in 5 seconds. I do the same thing with tritanium. 2 teleports once a week (1 teleport once I found a system that sold both) and I have enough frigate fuel for a good long time.

This.....I usually have enough from just running around on planets, but if I am in a pinch I like a list of space stations that sell 2k+ tritium. Much easier to refine than jellies.
Mr. Bufferlow Mar 23, 2021 @ 9:31am
I am not aware of any way to make processing the jellies any quicker. I just buy them at a known station when needed, (same process for Trit), and create about 20 of the 200u frigate fuel. It usually lasts a couple of days when I am full on with those missions.

The only time-saver in the process is the Matter Beam for the Freighter. That allows you offload the created di-hy to the freighter as you go so it is not trashing up your suit and you can avoid a special trip to the freighter to offload cargo.

Other than to occasionally get some useful items for crafting high value sale items, the frigate missions become tedious at some point. By the time you get all 30 frigates to S class- you should be pretty much over those missions.

Or simple method. Find airless planet - just rocks and no life. And fly over land slowly and shoot blue crystals with your canon (for example photon canon).
- You can mine a lot of ressources with this method (mainly ferrite dust)
- You can scan resources and if you are lucky, some of basic stones will contain dihydrogen as second resource - but you will fill inventory quickly.
- I recommend to build base on that planet , so you can land, store item and sell geodetes on terminal.

Lol, all these guys chatting away with their elaborate grinding schemes ... till Moxastin gives them the truth! Doesn’t post much, but not a new player.
