How does the Artemis Translation Device work? Is it a cheat around the usual language learning?

Just got the mission to do the Artemis translation device and have a slight worry that maybe it just nullifies the usual word learning system. Is that the case or is it something different? Just wondering if I should hold off and just explore on my own more before building it.

you have nothing to worry about. it will not give you extra words. it is only needed to advance the story/mission line.

i found it gave me no "extra" words.. even after i left it installed. not sure any of the translation upgrades are working properly.. i do know they don't stack through adjacency bonus.

Have installed this and all the translation devices (1 word, 2 word, 3 words) ... Well I never saw more words then what I gather manual...always 1 at a time. Guess they are not working or I don' tknow how they are supposed to work.

As far as I know they don't make you learn extra new words. All they do is show you more words of the conversation you are actually having. So if you talk to a Gek to learn a new word most of the sentence will be shown even if you have only learned a couple of words, you'll still only learn 1 word at the end.
