So, what can you actually do with friends?
Title. I mean, I know this update added missions in the Destiny hub and stuff, but we've been playing for a few hours and not found that yet. Base building is only for each person, none of my friends can see any of the NPCs in my base or help build it at all. What can we actually do together?

I'm not trying to complain or troll. My friends recently got this game and we are all legitimately wondering what we can do together. It's been feeling like we're all playing a single player game in the same world.

Your homies should be able to build your bases with you, check your network settings and make sure you have the right permissions enabled. The mission hub for co-op is unlocked pretty early in the main story, if you've played for a while already and haven't found it then you should focus whatever primary missions you have for a bit. Y'all can do missions, quests, building, exploration and harvesting together, but be careful when digging up relics, bones, or salvage while in group, it can get buggy in a party. A workaround I've found is to have your friends join your group, save, then exit and reload solo so that they're where you are but not in your group and you don't get inventory glitched.

You can help build each other's bases as long as your multiplayer settings are setup to do so. They can join your game and they will appear in your solar system. Their base will still be in theirs, but they can always setup their own in your system... even close to your own base.

You'll have your own quests to complete. If you do them in in parallel, you can sorta do them together. but if you're on a quest they're not, they can just tag along and help, hang out, collect resources with you, trade items you might need that they have.

The nexus allows up to 4 players in the anomaly to team up and all work together to complete a task.

You might not be able to do all of this so easily if you're still in the process of building your ship... since entering a friend's system usually throws them into space in that solar system.

Honestly i want to know that too. Before the update my friends and i all lived on the same planet we all played together 4 of us had bases on same planet that we could load with everyone or lode alone and we could always see each other's bases. Now it seems that's not the case as anything i've done while joined with my friend just vanishes when i load it alone. but it's still there when i join his game. So idk myself i'm really confused by the way they did multiplayer. why could we before build bases together but now can is the question iv'e been trying to get answered but i'm sure they have like 50 million support tickets so probably get a reply sometime in 2050. So far we have been able to just join up to explore and do the nexus missions and stuff together. and come look at each other's base. If i join my friends game and build a base there then log out it's gone so i start over and build a new base on same planet in same spot then join his game and my old base is there new base is gone... i'll come back in a month when they worked out all the bugs. I think they would be better off doing many smaller updates rather than one HUGE one... just to many things to go wrong at once. Plus i'd like a steady stream of new content rather than just a few times a year.

did you even look in the nexus at all for the missions? they're right in front and center.... or did you look in the network settings at all to see if there was a setting preventing other people from being able to build on your base? i had no issue building on other peoples bases

Was just kidding. Maybe it wasn't funny. Sorry if so.

The ‘missions’ are pretty sucky.

I was watching 3 guys on Twitch take a pirate-killing mission and it took them less than 10 minutes to kill a group of pirates and then return to the Nexus. Then you have boring ones like gathering eggs or finding some discovery on a planet that’s already pin-pointed for you after you scan...real thoughtful meaningful gameplay :eyerolly:

Anyway, it’s all symptomatic of the lack of core game in NMS once you do a couple of the mission paths.

The modus operandi for NMS seems to be build a pretty base, head to the core, then shelve NMS for a year in the hope the next major patch that comes along will add desperately needed depth to the game.
