Options:
1) There are techniques to expand the base bounds.
2) Build another base/computer.
I always go with option 2. I start every new base with a cuboid room, market terminal, teleporter and a bioreactor. Then, start building it into self-sustaining from there.
There is a border around your base where crossing it causes your build menu to drop to portable only, but it does no prevent you from building past that point. So you go near the border and stand still, select a wood wall or something then look out beyond the border and place it as far as you can. Now if you go near that wall you just placed you will find it's projecting another smaller bubble of base around it, and you can repeat this process over and over until you are like 1000u away from your base computer if needed. You can easily connect a bunch of nearby hotspots to a single base this way.
This may not always work on the live version of the game, but it does on experimental.
