I am really surprised that HG failed to provide this option for PC gamers in VR. It makes no sense.
You can tell them that NMS was designed originally for the PS4 and as such, the default input device used for all the design and planning of the UI was built around the use of a GamePad.
Full KB&M support was an afterthought that wasn't actually included for several weeks after the original launch.
Those playing with a game controller are actually getting the best NMS experience since the game was originally designed to use it exclusively on all platforms.
I've tried using the Keyboard and Mouse to control the game, but it pails in comparison to using a quality controller like the Xbox One Elite. Its amusing that these bozos that are giving you a hard time about using a controller are actually having a far less immersive experience with the game and don't even know it. Especially when it comes to flying ships or driving exocraft. No comparison! lol!
It took me a little while to get the hang of VR ship controls, but I spent a few minutes blasting away at asteroids and soon it felt natural enough. Had a couple dogfights after that with no problems.
Still, more options never hurts.
so iam pro thumstick control!
Agreed. I hate someone else deciding for me what input I will use to play my game. I'd prefer KB/M but was considering xbone controller as a compromise, but then I found out that even that is not supported.
Some of us want the immersion of seated VR without knocking over things on the desk with those stupid tracked VR controllers.
+1 - Love the (Index) controller implementation for running around; tho it is telling that the thumbsticks are used for movement rather than swinging them around, so not really sure why HGs didn't include that option for flight, it is a pretty standard setting for most games.
So another vote for more control options (HOTAS would be brilliant, thumbstick on the controller would be acceptable, XB1 needs to be implemented properly).
I agree bro. I am disabled and HAVE to play with the gamepad in VR, or I cannot play at all. So screw those people who say that! They can go sit on a tac.
Basic user friendly gaming stuff (known as "Quality of Life Update") ALL devs should consider from the start... instead of having fans that DO NOT want to mess up their 500+ hour game save using mods and hax, just so they can turn-off "vignette and Chromatic aberration", wait around for 3 and 4 years for an update that might contain an adjustment they have been asking for all along.
(LoL ... By the way, THank you HG for bringing back a working "vignette" option and toning down Bloom and that lens flare :)
I get it, devs want their game to "look and feel" like they designed it to be... a sort of "pride of the art" thing i guess but, come-on... why did i have to wait 3 years for them to add keybinds, or turn down bloom a little, or remove the obnoxious, epilepsy-inducing, white-out lens flare from a lamp in the corner of some aliens trade store.
The point is to the question, as to why seemingly logical in game user controls are missing, that would allow for gamers to adjust so-called "Quality of Life" gaming elements (i hate that term) without having to wait years [or maybe never] to get a more comfortable and user friendly game experience. (Seems like many game are like this nowadays)
Keybindings for M+KB and Gamepad should have been the first post-it note up on the white board... and before Beyond, the posty should have read, "For VR, ALL controller options when in VR mode available" ...
... because using a Vive controller mapping as a controller config "work-around" for my WMR Sam/Odyssey+ (that seems to be quite buggy) should not have happened... i should have been able to install Steam VR, put on my HMD, pick up my Elite controller and play with VR head-tracking, simply taking over mouse-look, what right stick was doing without VR in 1st person mode.
Beyond is an amazing FREE! update (as have they all been in the past)... and long time NMS fans are eternally grateful for making the game of our dreams ... ultimately these "complaints" are trivial... and i suspect over time, many of "the little things" will also be enhanced.
