Where to find cactus flesh?

I know this may sound a little stupid but all the cactus I found on desert planets only give me carbon. Am I doing something wrong or do I need something other than the mining laser to get it?

There's a farmable plant called Echinocactus or something along those lines. Just scan the planet before landing, see if there's such a plant on it - it'll be under the grain-looking symbol.

Then, once you land, use the scanner to find out where they are. Alternatively, you can look at a wiki to see what they look like and land near a patch of them.

So it's a specific kind of plant? Not just any cactus?
I did scan the planet before landing and it shows there is cactus flesh on it, that's why I'm so confused when cactus don't give me cactus flesh

It is indeed a specific kind of plant, like the heptaloid wheat.
