When you talk to aliens extra words will be translated, even if you have yet to discover them. The higher grade of module = more words

Do they stack, actually? Having a 1+2+3 lets you see 6 extra words, or just the top counts?

I'm having the same problem as OP, actually. I have language modules fully installed, but they don't do anything. Learning the languages is still as slow as ever.

Translator Modules don't help you learn languages faster. They're only good for briefly uncovering X# of words while you're speaking with aliens.

Yeah you dont actually learn the words that the translator translates... they only translate the word that one time in that one conversation. Which is kinda sad, imo.

Learning the languages is already a really slow grind if you dont mod the game... the translator almost doesn't feel like its worth the inventory slot.

It could work like this: if you saw a word, I don't know, 10 times using the translator, it could be learned.

It could, but it doesn't. It might 'work' by replacing the word spoken by the alien with you own native word, in which case you wouldn't learn a thing since you weren't exposed to the original word. Of course, as every one knows, translations aren't just word for word replacements as the grammar rules differ between languages...and probably even more so between species, so the entire concept of replacing a specific word and hoping to understand the meaning of a conversation is a game concept only.

So... Since B , A , S installed
1 + 2 + 3 = 6

Example word

there 7 unknown word

so 6 will be auto decipher? while 1 word still unknown

I prefer to think I'm getting 3! amount of words translated while I don't see it doing anything, because I thought it would change the word color to green (or red? then it's working), and to me anything with factorials are HUGE NUMBAS!

e.g., 3! is: 1 * 2 * 3 = 6. It's the same, but to me because it's now expressed as a factorial, it's larger! ;)

If you only had the first two translator techs would you still prefer to think of it as a factorial? :)

Agreed, it would be really great for words shown by translator tech had a different color, just so we could see for ourselves how useful it really is. That way we could also easily measure if multiple translator upgrades stack, and how.

Thanks to NuckinFuts for explaining their actual function to me, because the game's description is pretty vague.

They used to give you the extra words but no longer do that, they stack as long as you don't use the same grade so a+b will stack but a+a wont, so with a+b+c+s you only get 6 words translated max
Infern Aug 29, 2019 @ 11:05am
I thought the word translator actually gives you words each time you warp from and to a station... At random...
japp_02 Aug 29, 2019 @ 11:43am
So do the 3 upgrades stack to get more translated words at the end, or are 3 translated the maximum?
AFAIK, only moment where this is important is in fabrics or headquaters where you solve the puzzle. Maybe also with Monoliths.

THEY DO NOT STACK.

There.

You're welcome.

I don't know if they are supposed to but right now they don't.
