Electromagnetic Power Grid
Can someone explain the rules with these things? I'm having trouble getting my Electromagnetic power to my Mining operation (About 1000u away) I believe the problem lies in the fact that the Electric generation area has one base computer set up near it, and the Mining operation area has another seperate Base computer. Are you able to deliver power across basees? I dont want to have to jerry rig a string of batteries in order to extend my Base building area.

I can confirm this. 2 bases close.. with about 50u overlap. Batteries built in the "power generator" area, work fine. Even in the over lap as long as it's targeting the power generator base, they work. If you build batteries assigned to the other base, even if they're inside the overlap of the power generator base, power won't get sent through into them.

Took me a while to figure out, seems like a wasted opportunity to build cool networked bases via long power lines.

Optimal set up seems to be to set your main base near power generators, set up mines with solar/batteries. I kinda had that reversed, so my first Beyond base is humping a trade depot and copper node. I have power ~500u away but can't get the power over to the main base.

You can extend your bases build zone by building near the edge. I have a mining base on an ice world that streaches across a power zone & 3 different mining spots all in different directions from the power spot.

The best way i have found to do this is to use the deployable save beacons. Walk until the build menu vanishes, back up a bit & place a beacon, then repeat until you get to the place you want to mine & build your extractor... took me about 6 beacons to extend about 1000u from the base computer. Afterwards I ran cables & pipes back to the base which anchored the base zone so I could pick up all the beacons and move to the next extension.

Does this actually still work? I tried expanding my base this way but I place the battery at the edge of the area I can build in and it just stays the edge, nothing changes. Or do they have to be linked with cables and powered?

No, you can't transfer the electricity from one base to another.

A possible solution would be to increase your base size manually by placing batteries until you reach your electromagnetic hotspot and then build the generators.

No need to waste resources, i placed flags and blue lights on them so the power line isn't too ugly.

It does. Don't use batteries if you don't want to. Just place items on the edge of the building area.

Mines don't overlap either. I figured the pipes were meant to run outposts to a main hub where you could have all the storage depots but NOPE! Any base overlap to make sure the power/resources can make it doesn't matter. So frustrating, I was hoping to find a work around on here but I'm seeing its just a common issue with this fallout 4 level base building.

this does not work.

I just placed a string of lights to extend the base range. Would be nice to have an official item for extending base range. You could limit it to 2 or 3 per base.

are you sure? Ive built foundation out for a LONG distance while standing at the edge of my base range, but the range has never extended.

Same, I tried with batteries and with flags now but nothing, still the same range

It's true, personally i manually walked until i couldn't build, walked a bit back and put it right beside me.

Yep. I've done it on two bases now. I stood at the max range and used the build view (C) and placed a lamp inside the max range of build view. Each building seems to create a bubble around it, owned by the base you were standing inside when you placed it.

That's also a safer/easier option.

gonna have to test that

I've been having the same issues. I found a S rank electromagnetic power source but it was too far from the closest S rank minerals I could find. I tried everything I could to extent the range of my base but no go. In my case though, I couldn't even get 1000 units away from my base, the most I could get was 800 units before the range just cut me off. Oddly enough, I can still place objects passed the line as long as I stand behind the cut off point. But you can only go so far.

seems like the manual expansion does work, i only ever tried with foundations and it never worked so i just assumed it couldn't. but did it now using the big circle buildings and it did create a bubble of buildability around it. but 900u - 1000- is the absolute max limit, you can build further than that using the camera and aiming far, maybe another 100-200u, but thats it.
