How do you buy a frigate?

Have saved up around 4 million space dollars and am trying to buy a frigate. Finding lots of ships, but when I approach them, I cant seem to interact with them. Tried using the communicator but the signal doesnt work. What do?

Frigates that can be bought should have a green icon on it. Fly towards the icon until you receive an incoming transmission. Answer the transmission and you enter a dialog that will allow you to buy it.

I got my 1st freighter last night and when I am out in space I see armadas jump in and many of the frigates have a green ship icon on them.

You may need to win a freighter first.

Just to be clear: You can buy a freighter by finding one and landing in the bay and going up the stairs to speak with the captain. Another way is to assist in a space battle-same basic process as above after you finish the battle. The freighters are very large and have a ship bay inside a series of three doors on the front.

Frigates can only be purchased if you own a freighter. They are support vessels for the freighter. While not completely sure, I believe you have to interact with the NPCs on board the freighter to start the frigate buying experience. You will need to build a command room on your freighter.

The game is pretty good about walking you through the initial process.

you dont get to fly or even command the frigate btw, it sits there and you send it on missions :(

Do not look at the icons, they are broken. Get near a frigate, if you can buy it a message will pop-up, else it's not for sale. And as told above, you first need to own a freighter.

If I may add, you can also just Follow the Storylines - one of the main ones 'gives' you a Freighter after a while (not guaranteed to be a great one, but a 'free' one).
