PSA - don't leave resources in large refiners and leave your base... POOF!
OK, so I thought a few times that I've been hit by this, but I chalked it up to me being crazy. HOWEVER, I now have absolute confirmation that this happens.

I JUST filled my large refiner with 9999 copper (took a long time for industry to give it to me!) and pushed begin to refine chromatic metal. I then left and did a mission on planet (far enough from my base for it to "despawn" i suppose, and when I came back all my large refiners were simply EMPTY.

SOOO, apparently, don't leave crap in your refiners and do something else. Just sit there and watch the stuff or risk losing it. Probably not working as intended I know, but FRACK I'm pissed.

SIGH

Yeah, going too far from a refiner, or through a loading screen, can cause it to despawn everything inside it. Portable, medium, and large; all gone.

Also, I suggest working your way to a blue system and picking up some indium (activated, if possible). Activated indium gives 8x more chromatic metal than copper.

1 gold + 1 silver + 1 copper => 5 chromatic metal
You need 10 times less copper if you can get some gold and silver. When you have frigates you need a lot of tritium. You will not lack gold or silver.

10 chromatic metal with cadmium, 20 with emeril and 30 with indium. It does not work if the metal is activated.

More in the subject, I never get the problem. But there is something strange with the inventory of rafineries. I can place 5 Chloride lattice coming from my exosuits in a rafinery. But if I take 10 Chloride lattice from my freighter and put them in my exosuits in 2 slots. The rafinery wiill accept 10 of them.

When I raffine 2 Chloride lattice I get 300 chloride. Because I play in survival I should not be able to have more than 250 chloride. But the game allow 300. If I get out the UI of the rafinery with 300 chloride. The amount of chloride reseted to 250 when I open the rafinery few seconds later.

If you play in normal you may be able to place 9999 item in the rafinery. I am not sure the rafinery was thought for that many items.

Also, cadmium (or emeril, and probably copper as well) + chromatic metal gives more cadmium (or emeril, or copper).

So you'll never run out of chromatic metal again

I don't know if people get the problem playing survival or permadeath. I see the problem coming from the 9999 stacks that is not well handle by the raffinery.

Can confirm this, lost a stack of Activated Iridium in my large on PS4.

This happens on permadeath as well. We had this problem at the beginning of Next as well. Don't leave stuff in your refiner -- don't leave the base, don't leave the planet and don't leave your game - the refiner is not a storage facility. Please please please report this to zendesk it took a huge sample of ppl last time to get it fixed. In fact during Next, they were in the refiner code 5 times in six months.

I've been hesitant to hop back into No Man's Sky and run into these glitches, appreciate the heads up. For a while I wasn't sure if it was just Multiplayer that was causing problems.

lol I actually needed to refine something (can't remember what it was) last time I was playing and checking things out.

So far i didn't have any problem leaving things in my refiner even when porting away. Was this with or without multiplayer?
tattmann Sep 2, 2019 @ 5:07am
Not just refiners doing this. Also oxygen harvesters. They've been acting up since just before visions though......

With or without multiplayer?

AMUs switching materials has been happening since NEXT - this emptying thing, I only remember seeing it after Beyond. But it definitely happens and it definitely sucks.

Report the bug. In the meantime, save before leaving you base.

Nobody answering the question so guess no help needed

I accidentally left around 500 Cobalt in a large refiner, but it didn't disappear. I have multiplayer disabled and went to the Anomaly to complete a few Nexus missions.

I don't get this issue with large industry extractors, only portable atmosphere extractors so far. I have them set up next to a save beacon, and when I return to them, it's a gamble whether or not their inventory will be wiped.
