They look like little 'badges' on the drive tiles (Yellow, Blue, Green, etc), sort of like little banners/flags.
HTH
but they've been like this since day 1 - and now that the Class designations are added (A class takes you to B Class and C Class stars), I don't think it's going to change [we can also just rebuild the Engines...].
Why regretting? Even if the devs would change that (and they never did in the past) - regretting? Why? If you have the blueprint for these things you can easily rebuild the drives. They aren't expensive, the materials aren't hard to find. "Regretting" is a harsh word for losing nothing by deleting and building them again.

If you update to the latest version of NMS, you should see these badges/banners on the engine drives.
((Screenshot taken before Dismantling the C-Class Engine Drive, as it did not increase the Light-Year Distance Travel Jump maximum (eg. "514 Ly" in-game)))
The rating exists in the game, placed there on purpose by the developers.
The rating affects how much the Blueprints cost for them.
The rating is indicated at Merchants selling the Technology upgrades (eg. (A), (C), etc).
The rating matches perfectly with each 'upgrade' in distance to Warp, reaching farther stars/systems with each Class increase (eg. Blue Stars, Red Stars, Green Stars).
Yet, the"rating is pointless"..? Got it.
Edit:
Welcome to my Ignore List. I'm sorry but I cannot waste energy on arguing something obvious with you today. Peace to you.
At the glaxy map. If you don't have the appropriate drive (or better) you can't travel to those systems. Unless you're using a freighter as these can jump to any systems without the need to upgrade their engines.
If you can't travel to blue/green/red systems there is also a mentioning at the galaxy map if you hover over them: "Cadmium/Emeril/Indium drive needed".
If you didn't encounter any of these things then you're either very lucky as their are no systems around you (or unlucky if you want these materials) or you're using a freighter or you purchased a ship with an engine already installed without noticing. Other than tha? No, you can't jump to all systems if the corresponding drives are missing.
