How do you build a landing pad in the air?
I've looked over some old posts and I've tried them all but nothing works.

Specifically;

I've tried adding the pad on top of cuboid blocks
Connecting the pad to a corridor
Connecting the pad to a door
Building the pad on top of floors
Stacking 2 rooms and building the pad on top of it.

It seems that pads only build on top of the ground itself?

The way I did it was by stacking three cylindrical prefabs, deleting the bottom two, then building my base. At the end of a long room made of cuboids (this is important - I didn't use a corridor) is where I attached the landing pad, by moving very far away from the base.

I'll try this tonight.

How "long" can it be? Can I get away 4 cuboids in length? Do I need to add a door to end of the cuboid before I attach the pad?

Mine was 5 cuboids in length - it's where I put my storage containers. No doors, the landing pad will create its own. Be advised, the door it creates is misaligned, because reasons, and will require a short jump when you're going to the pad, but not when you're returning from it.

about the door. someone has released a mod for this until HG fix it

Attaching LPs requires the use of Camera mode and being very far away from your snap point. LIke 75u or more. I have been able to snap to the far side of a main room (round or square). Someone told me that if you go back far enough you can snap to the near side too. Maybe sides as well. It seems like a bug, but it works. Elevated is no problem. Use the suggestion of stacking then snapping.

I'd rather not install mods until I get bored with this game, even if it's for small fixes like that.

@Priest - Yes

Odd, I've not had any issue placing them on my ceilings, I'm not trying to snap them though, but they place just fine normally (maybe consider glitch building if you can't get them to green light)

You can glitch build them in by using the appearance modifier, clicking to place that down but a fraction of a second after doing that, instantly swapping to the pad.

Actually this post is now useless, they just updated experimental, landing pads snap correctly now and at the right height. update your game. yay!

Thanks for the extra details. I'll chew on this tonight when I log in and mess around with it.

Good news, the experimental branch fixes many bugs, including the snapping error with the landing pad. You could just wait until the experimental branch is released to the main branch, or go onto the experimental branch.

So do we have any news from a dev saying this is a bug?
Are they planning on making it the way it was?

Just wondering.

I was not getting a door when a I snapped an LP to a main room. I had to add a door separately.

the best way? you wait until the current patch on Experimental is pushed live.
