When you select a terminal to build, are you switching to the correct terminal?
It can be difficult to read sometimes in close quarters with it projecting to so many different places.
Another possibility is that you accidentally built one somewhere on the terrain. Accidentally building things is common since the build menus are so cumbersome and slightly buggy. If you point off in the distance by accident and pressed the build key, this can even happen if the key bounces, and you have accidentally built a scientist station off in the hills around your base. It may be tough to find if you suspect you did that, so it may be easier just to delete and rebuild the base. I did that once and it took 20 mins to find the misplaced build item because it was behind a rock somewhere.
That still leaves space for doors and corridors.
Found it now, was placed in the terrain :P
